Hi guys,
I want to do a fresh install of Windows 10 to SSD. My current OS is on a mechanical drive which I intend to format and reuse as a storage drive. My question is would this work as it already contains an OS. The last time I tried this, the drive was rendered inaccessible.

You should be able to use the hdd as an internal drive.
It is not clear to me why disk management does not show the drive when the bios does.
I think you should be able to add a drive through storage management.

I tried absolutely every suggestion I found online the last time I tried this but the drive wouldn't show up in disk management. Is it possible that it was due to the fact that it still had an OS on it?
I've just finished installing windows on the new SSD, I'll add the old OS drive and report back how it goes.

Thanks so much for all you help guys, I'm pleased to announce that all the drives are visible and working as expected. Thanks again. How do I close this thread? 😀

Hi,

I was wondering if having a dual boot will cause problems with windows software compatibility.

I was planning on changing my mom's prebuilt to boot off of an SSD from an HDD, but didn't want there to be any conflicting software
Dualboot with 2 identical OS's is rarely a good idea.
One drive or the other.

If you're going to change it to an SSD, do that and wipe the other one.
