Front IO not working

Hello, first time posting here.

I have built a new PC from scratch last week and everything went fine except the front USB ports dont't work properly. All cables are plugged in and the front IO connector is connected to my mainboard.

The drivers have all been downloaded from the official mainboard site and I even used Free Driver Scout and SlimDrivers but I still get the same error.

When I plug in my external HDD which works on my back USB ports it says "the last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and windows doesn't recognize it". And when I plug in my XBox 360 Controller (which also works on the other ports) I don't even get that Windows sound.

ASRock B85M-ITX
Intel i5-4460
MSI Radeon R9 280
Corsair CX500M
Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3-1600
Windows 8.1

In your device manager is there any yellow triangles with exclamation mark?

Only when I plug in my external HDD

Are they actually plugged into the USB ports on your mobo? It will usually say on the MOBO if it meant for USB?

Yes, the connector from the case is connected to the USB 3.0 Header on the motherboard. Checked in the manual and it even says so on the MOBO.

Check again you haven't missed a header pin - easy mistake.

I figured that I didn't turn it the right way so one pin was on the wrong position. Took it out and connected it back in properly and now everything is working.
