Hi all,

I got a problem getting my new CPU to work and I thought you experts might have a solution.

I have an ASUS A7v8x-x, currently running an AMD XP 2400+. I tried to install an XP3200 (400 fsb), but I have been unsuccessful as of yet to get Windows to get beyond the "safe mode, last known config, start Windows normally screen". When I install the new CPU, the computer defaults to the BIOS screen where you dial in your CPU speed (in this case, 2200 MHz). The multiplier is auto-selected to 11. I save and it goes to the Windows "safe, last, normal" window.

When I first bought the 3200, I tried using it with my 266memory and got the same problem, so I purchased 400 MhZ memory. I still get the same problem. The MOBO says it only supports 2 sticks of 400MHZ, and thats what I have, although I tried with one stick, with no success. The manual and ASUS say the 3200 is supported. Flashing the bios is my next try.

Any suggestions?

According to the ASUS website http://www.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A7V8X-X&langs=01#, that mobo doesn't support 200fsb. Your new cpu appears to be a Barton core that runs at 200fsb with an 11 multiplier to make 2.2ghz.

To confirm, is that what you've got?

Mike.

That mobo is rated only for DDR333 RAM. The last time Ive played with this mobo the highest I got it was 192fsb before it wouldnt pass memtest.
