Question Full Amount of Ram Not Recognised in UEFI/BIOS

All of a sudden my sisters computer does not recognize the full amount of RAM. I first discovered this when I opened task manager and it said 10GB instead of the full 16GB. I restarted and now it only says 4GB. I did not update anything or change any settings prior to this. The PC works fine and can run games but the RAM is limited.

I checked in the UEFI and it does recognise the right model number/name, but the wrong amount.

What I've tried:

  • Sifting through various Google results and Reddit threads to no avail.
  • Physical inspection and reseating of DIMMs. (see pictures 7,8)
  • Reseating CPU / Loosening CPU cooler.
  • Individually tested both dimms and dimm slots. Boots fine but halves the amount to 2GB.
  • Flashed BIOS to newest (F17c) and previous (F16) version.
  • Clearing CMOS and removed CMOS battery.
  • Different speeds and voltages and disabling/enabling XMP profile 1 and 2.
  • Resetting UEFI settings to defaults.
  • Windows memory diagnostic, no faults or errors.
  • Memtest86 test PASSED no errors, however it says the slots are empty and the size of the DIMMs are 0MB when checked individually within Memtest86 (see pictures 4, 5).
  • Cleaning/dusting whole PC + specifically CPU and DIMM slots.
  • Unchecked maximum memory in msconfig.
  • Updated all drivers and OS.
Relevant specs:

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B550M S2H
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
  • RAM: Kingston HyperX FURY DDR4-3200 C16 DC 16GB (2x8) (HX432C16FB3AK2/16)
  • OS: Windows 10 64bit
This has been increadibly frustrating and any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
