FUNHOUSE PAINT COLOR QUESTION AND OPTO BOARD QUESTION

Can anyone tell me which color blue I need to paint the back box of my
Funhouse? I can chip a little off and have it matched up. But I really
don't want to chip off a quarter size piece of paint to have this done.

I also can not get the opto board to work for the sensor in front of the
jaw. Don't know if it is the board or something else. zI checked the wires
they seem to be ok. When it runs the test it tells me to opto board S1 has
problem. Thanks

Pinball Universe sells the matched paint. I've had great luck with their
stuff.

I matched mine at Home Depot using a standard paint chip which was Glidden
Bright and Lively "Phantom Blue" #72BB 07/288 in semi-gloss. Matched
perfectly.

fogive my newbie ignorance but isn't the FH backbox the same colo(u)r as
WH2O?
I got a buddy of mine to get some "pepsi blue" and it looked spot-on.

I have Whitewater, Funhouse, Whirlwind and Earthshaker and all are different
shades. Whirlwind is definately lighter, but FH, ES and WWind are very
close but not quite exactly the same. It's amazing how many shades of blue
there are when you try to match them. 🙂

And some games will have faded a little bit more than others..
so asking now for a default 'funhouse blue' is impossible,
as the blue may have been a perfect match for when the game was new but
may be off now with someones game..

best thing to do is indeed try to match something yourself or at least
get something which is very close to start with

The supposed "exact" Glidden formula can be found in this string of

But, I had two cans mixed, one in semi-gloss and one in flat and both
ended up a bit too light. They are water based and because of that are
a bit too transparent so that they don't get the benefit of the
undercoat serving to darken the effect. I had to actually have a
professional do the touchup for me on my FH.

Those numbers look very close to the "Phantom Blue" I got for my FH. I also
used Glidden Evermore semi-gloss. When I get home tonight I'll post the
pigment numbers off the lid on the can and compare.

On my way home, and before I saw your above post, I stopped off at Home
Depot and asked for a quart of "Glidden Phantom Blue" #72BB 07/288 in
semi-gloss. I wanted a can to compare with the one I got with the
other formula. And the label they put on the Phantom Blue can matches
exactly with your above colorant formula. It also appears to be a
closer match than the formula posted by Arizona Bruce which I provided
a link to earlier in this string of posts.

The real problem is that the backbox isn't actually one solid even
color as it has variances throughout. The best hope is to apply the
Phantom Blue to a small area and then blot a bit with a facecloth to
create a darker and lighter effect. But I would not think that can be
done if a large area is being touched up. In that case the simplist
thing might be to mask off the graphics and just repaint the entire
backbox... or leave well enough alone. After all a few blemishes are
to be expected in a machine that is 15 years old. (But that's easy for
me to say, and I certainly understand if you can't live with even a
small imperfection since I am anal that way!) 🙂
