FX-6300 or FX-8320?

So I have enough money to buy an FX-8320. Should I go buy it, or get the cheaper FX-6300 and save some money? Is the difference in performance between the two processors big?

No Intel recommendations please. I already have a nice AM3+ motherboard and I'm not willing to buy a new mobo. Thanks.

If you don't plan on upgrading your CPU or motherboard any time soon (1-2+ years) then I would get the 8320. That way you can have an 8-Core (highest core count on AM3+) and then be able to overclock it for additional performance.

But In general a FX 6350 (3.9GHz) will be only 1FPS behind a 8350 (4GHz). Go look at Techspot's Gaming Benchmarks and particularly their CPU benchmarks on games. Metro: Redux, Alien: Isolation, Far Cry 4 and some other games show only 1FPS while a few games like Dragon Age Inquisition shows FPS differences of around 6FPS.

Gaming wise there is little performance to gain currently between a similarly clocked FX 6350 vs a FX 8350. As an FX 6300 is the same clock (at least base clock) as an FX 8320 they should perform near identically in games. It's the exact same with Intel processors. There is very little (1FPS) to no gain in gaming performance when comparing an Quad-Core i5 to a Quad-Core + HT i7 and the same goes with a Quad-Core + HT i7 vs a 6-8 Core i7. The only processor I would pay more money compared to an FX 6300 would be an Intel i5 processor as getting any other AMD processor won't help.

I say 8350 or 6350. The higher clocked chips have tested better and should oc better.

Go for the 83, itll last you a bit longer so dont be shy step up and buy!
