FX 8320 Vdrop and ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3

Hi,

I have ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 and I bought new cpu - AMD FX 8320.

Now I have problem with stability of cpu frequency and voltage. When I run Prime95/IBT cpu voltage and freq drops down to 1.2V and 2.9GHz. All power saving options in Bios was disabled. What's the problem?

This motherboard should be enough for this cpu and give to it enough voltage. When I set cpu to 2.5GHz the problem is gone and frequency stay stable at 2.5GHz. While I had Phenom II X4 955BE I testi it on 1.55V and frequency and voltage are ultra stable - no Vdrop and anything else.
As such, he used a lot more energy then the current processor FX 8320.

is coolnquiet still turned on, or turbo? its what almost all new cpus do, run at a lower speed/power draw until the cpu power is needed then it bumps it up, is it causing issues for you?

All power saving options was disabled. Turbo is also disabled in Bios. But again it's downclocking.

Btw, MB set CPU/NB voltage to 1.58V, maybe wrong readings? Otherwise, that is too high...

try 1.2v ~ 1.3 for cpu/nb also while your at it use cpuid hwmonitor to check voltage drops and speed fan to see if your vrms are not dying from excess demand. my gigabyte motherboard had a stupid nb voltage at 2.5v at default, it later had a quick meeting with my fist when i started to get random crashes and asus had the sense to inform me on default it 1.2volts.

I can not change CPU/NB voltage like I can with Phenom cpu.

check if it is locked and see if you have a switch on your board called core unlocker.

I have that switch. It isn't locked, but when I lower them, pc won't bot

okay that odd, go back to default settings and boot with core unlocker at locked

Is there any way to view CPU Frequency on screen while playing?
