Hey guys, i just upgraded my cpu from a fx 6100 to a fx 8370.
i am currently cooling it down with a antec H2O 920, a closed loop water cooler, it over 2 years now, but i cleaned it for dust.
still i'm getting high temps, its 56-58 celsius idle, and under intel burn test it reaches 72 celsius and it's only the thermal throttle that keeps it from going any further.
is my water cooler really that bad, i dont have space for any bigger water cooler in my case.
i made a little researching and found out that my water cooler is rated to handle 95w TDP and the fx 8370 is a 125 W TDP
can the stock air cooler really handle the 125W TDP, it looks puny but is it better than my water coller???
i have not overclocked the 8370 but disabled the AMP, cool and quiet and other power saving function so it runing 4 ghz base and bost 4,3 ghz
is air cooling more powerful than water cooling???

in the past were i oc my old fx 6100 i cold not pas 4,2 ghz and even that was to hot inder a burn test

Well I cant fine anywhere That it does or don't support It. That's a 120mm RAD so don't think that's going to cool a 8 core CPU I would get a better case and buy the Corsair H100i If you cant then I would buy lots of fans to cool it down. also fine out if your speed is on max. maybe you lower the RPMs the max is 2400RPM

i mounted the stock cooler and its over performing my water cooler. im getting 46c idle and 69c burn without terminal throttle kicking in.
i'm considering a coolermaster Hyper 612 Ver.2 as my new cooler, what do you think, any better alternatives.
i want to overclock the cpu.
i don't want another watercooler, i will just stick to air 😍

you better off getting the cooler master 212 EVO
and If you going to OC then you will only be able to do mild OC with that cooler. if you want max OC then I would look in to a water cooled.

If you want air cooling then look at the Phanteks TC-12DX as a mid range, or the TC-14PE and Noctua D15 for high end

That cpu cooler looks really good better then the others that someone listed. But not many reviews. I hope it works out for you. And Please let me know how it turns out.

i found out that it won't fit, luckily before i bought it. their H5 model will fit just perfect http://. it's though only a 180W TP but im gona by an extra fan for pull push set up to give ti a bit more power. it's stil better than the evo. 😀
ive seen a few review and thay loved it 😍 , i also read some user reviews and they said they wold rader by the Cryorig than than the CM 212 evo :bounce:

i finally got the cooler mounted and its performing very well. 4,5ghz so far with 40 degrees idle and 60 under burn test. :bounce:
i have a little problem with the thermal throttle, it kicks in at 60 degrees. on the fx 6100 it was at 70 degrees. even by disabling it in the bios does not help. i can also set it to 12,5% 25% 50% 85,5% what does that mean? :??:
the temps went past 60 degrees on the stock cooler with stock clocks without thermal throttle taking over 😛

Get some heatsinks for the VRMs, that boards been known to throttle from VRM overheating when overclocking the 8 core cpus.

i will say that i have quite good airflow, i did not have the problem with the fx 6100, it throttled at 70 degrees, but i cold not turn it off with that chip to. what is vrm exactly?

i am considering it, but what i am wondering is why the fx 8370 throttles down at 60 degrees when the 6100 did it at 70 degrees
im okay with temps around 60-65 degrees under load.
im gona ad a fan to cool the vrm to see if it have any effect

Because the throttling is probably occuring due to VRM temp, not CPU temp.

if you go here

http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/processors/desktop/fx#

you will see that fx 6100 had 95 watts consumption and FX 8370 125 watts consumption its 30 watts difference nothing that indigo xtream can't handle.
