Hello,

My Nvidia FX5900 is always at 60Hz in DOS mode.
I would like a vertical refresh at 85Hz.
I used "unirefresh" with my old TNT2 ultra but it doesn't works with the
FX5900.
Is it possible to modify the FX5900 bios to have a default vertical
frequency at 85Hz?

Thanks.

Try refresh force -- this app will set a refresh rate (as you specify) for
each resolution. This will not be changed by applications:

It doesn't work in plain DOS mode (ie text mode)!

Back a long time ago, there was a TSR named UniVBE and SciDoctor that
you could do about anything with. But those were DOS only and won't
work with anything above Win95.

There is an option for double scan mode in the newest drivers though.
Display Properties > NVidia tab > Display Timings > [Enable Doublescan].

It might work with DOS emulation through 2000/XP.

There was another option, but it didn't work for TEXT modes in DOS;
but it worked for VESA video modes, set either within DOS or Windows
95. (example: games).

It was called " Vbeplus" and " Unirefresh". I don't know if they were
ever updated for newer cards; it may or may not work with a FX5900.

There were some issues, for example, setting certain modes (like
384x224) would cause other modes to lock up. Plus, his HD crashed
awhile ago, when I was testing a new version for him, and the one he
had, would scramble the screen on a Ti 4600 card. And without the
source, the old exe was useless, as he couldn't find the core changes
he had done.

You might want to email the author about it. But I don't even know if
his webpage is still up. He used to post in the newsgroups...
