FX8320 idle temp at 40c. is this too high??

I noticed that my fx8320 cpu temp at around 40c at idle. is this too high??
I check the cpu compound, it's very thin and dry. is this the reason??
CPU temp will go up to around 50c only at pretty minor load, surf internet, watch youtube, something like this.

My pc also restarted itself twice at around 50c. is this a sign of my cpu cooling problem???

The nb sits around 60c all the time on 990 boards - its that way by design .

don´t touch hardware while it´s powered!
Try water with 50 or 60 degrees Celsius, it´s nearly untouchable too 😉

do you use amd overdrive now to read the temps?

is the 8pin ATX12V power plug inserted or just 4Pins from the power supply to the motherboard? it´s the upper left cable near the CPU.

Yes it will - if it doesn't blue screen first.

60c is hot though mate - too hot to touch for more than a second.

Try dropping in bios , the nb voltage is likely set at 1.2v , try it at 1.175v.

Also run a prime test & let us know what cpu-z is showing as CPU voltage while its running.

60c is hot though mate - too hot to touch for more than a second.

if my nb can not sustain 60c, then the board is not good. cos 60c would be normal when pc is under some load. if it shut down to self protect at 60c, it means it does not work, cos it gets to 60c easily. I think your pc will not shut down as nb gets 60c.

Try another power supply, the cx series is not a good choice

^ really doubt its the PSU mate - while they can have reliability issues after a couple of years of pushed constantly to 80% loads that 750 isn't pushing more than 40% usage .

This corsair 750w is a brand new one. If it's psu problem, does it cause nb hot and shut down?? I thought if it's not enough power supply, it should not be hot, right?? pls guide me, i could absolutely be wrong.

I just downloaded a Everest, It does not have temp on it, it has stepping, type, size, process technology, voltagle, but no temp....

yes, the bios is updated.
what hardware you mean? HDD?
Except the board, all other parts are like one year old.

hi madmatt30. Have you seen shut down due to psu's problem? why's that? it's not enough power, or some other factors??

If the power supply fails, of course the PC shuts down. Could be defective. Also The voltage could not be stable enough.

Did you fresh install windows or did you just replace the motherboard? Did you use another motherboard before with this windows installation? Which brand and model was it?

no, the windows was already installed on my hdd, so it's not a fresh install of win.
yes, this win7 64bit was iniitally installed to current hdd when on a msi 760 board.
Does this matter??

I would definitely try a clean windows installation mate - swapping boards with similar or the same chipset you can get away with 99% of the time but going from a 760 chipset to a 990 with an existing installation is a bad bad idea.
There could be all sorts of old driver remnants & defunct or conflicting windows system files hanging around.

While they shouldn't cause shutdowns they can certainly cause bsod's & all sorts of other errors.

PSU - yes a dire PSU can cause all sorts of problems but IMO the cx750 is absolutely nowhere near as bad as its made out to be on these forums.it may not be a high end unit but its certainly better than all the generic crap floating about which is quite literally 70% of the PSU market.

Besides the fact that CX 750's are CWT built PSU's (aka high quality), hes running an RM 750, which is a VERY high quality PSU. Get your crap straight.

edit: I will say the CX line used to be crap, they revised their units YEARS ago.

sorry, madmatt30, i just realized i made a mistake: my psu is rm cosair rm 750w. How's this one, better than cx750?

Far far better mate - the RM is a top quality PSU - its very very very unlikely to be the problem.I know its a pain mate but a fresh windows install is definitely the way to go.

I will try another board and do this.

I dont know the nb too hot is just the asrock 990fx's issue, or it's my configuration's issue, which means any board will have nb too hot and shut down once put into my configuration.
