#()!*@#* I hate when you type up something all nice and the board loses your message.

Well here goes again.

In reading and trying to decide, I found out something I don't get (and as a newb at system building, that isn't hard to do):

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000)

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166

First, I didn't even know there was a 1000 vs a 1066 version.

Now forget about the price. What else is different besides the 66 additional? There must be something, or why would anyone buy the 1066 one.

Is there a difference if say you use a E8400 vs E8500 or what you OC to or?

Both have very very good reviews.

In one board I'm considering (GIGABYTE GA-EX38-DS4), the 1066 seems to be working ok from people's sigs, etc. but in another (ASUS RAMPAGE FORMULA), the 1000 works but people seem to be having issues with the 1066.

I checked the G.Skill installation doc on the 1066 and they even say it works on the Rampage.

But:

So am I safe using either? Why would one every consider the 1066 (and clearly many do)? Do I just write off the problems others seem to have as 'user error'?

go with a different brand. I just purchased that 1066 set and am having a lot of issues with it, it gives a lot of errors. I would suggest the OCZ
