G.Skill Trident X Compatibility with Noctua NH-D15

Are the Trident X compatible with the fan at the ram end tower fixed higher up?

-Noctua states 32mm ram clearance with fan in default position, though can be positioned slightly higher but does not show the extra dimensions gained;

G.Skill Trident X RAM would be 39mm with the fins removed (& 54mm with fins) as shown here;

Having no experience in ram oc'ing, i want high frequency with low latency ram, such as selected 2133mhz/CL9 (Budget £140 for 16GB kit)

The motherboard used is Asus Maximus VII Ranger
'pcpartpicker' will not comment on the compatibility of the 3 parts together, due to the heat spreaders on the RAM;
* Some physical dimension restrictions cannot (yet) be automatically checked, such as cpu cooler / RAM clearance with modules using tall heat spreaders.

P.S. I have to wait about 2 weeks to start ordering parts as i can purchase them with TAX refunded via a generous client, so no rush to start buying (£1450 with VAT, back down to original budget of £1200 exc. VAT)

Thanks,

As shown on a Maximus VI Gene, there was not room to use the firs PCI Express slot, would that spacing be the same on this VII Ranger?

I Will surely post my own pictures on this when and if it works out of course, may help alot of people decide on the D14/15
But I'm not a reviewer or paid reviewer so can't afford trial and error buying this kind of stuff here lol

Just read a review of it on Overclock3d and it said it's almost sure to take up the first PCI slot on any motherboard.

Quote from their article:

It's also pretty much a cert that you're going to lose your first PCI Socket, so let's hope it's nothing important like your main GPU socket for example. Its woth making very clear not all motherboards are laid out the same, on many boards your first PCIE x16 slots for graphics can be the second slot down on the back of your case. If your motherboard is laid out like this you wont have a problem with the D15. If as in our photos the first graphics slot is right at the top then you will run into problems.

Looks like you might need to get a different cooler or motherboard if you plan to add a second graphics card.

Thanks, Just got to 27mins where he concluded that too =( was really eager to own a noctua x,x
Any suggestions on motherboard changes or even cooler change within that category of performance/silence/reliability?
Noticed VII Hero had same spacing
Been through weeks of forum scouring to settle on the noctua, got to start fresh now

Aww go get rest and rise cheerful tomorrow for me to hassle you =)
Images of my previous choice board ASRock Z97 EXTREME6 looks viable with a mini slot before the express x16 slot but miss out on all those asus/rog features but feel let down not to have a maximus now lol,
So... Thinking rather change the cooler than the mobo
Would consider a Phanteks PH-TC14PE but need to crosscheck those spacings too, skeptical on noisier water unit and according to reviews, noctua is best in given price ranges zzzzz

Noctua definitely does have great price to performance.

I doubt there are any motherboards which have the first pci slot free with the D15. In the article earlier it mentioned that some motherboards have different slots besides the first one which can run at full speed, here's a list of ones that do:

Wew alotta reading, thanks! lol

The Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SOC just seems.... packed with features far beyond what i would use with sanity intact!

The MSI Z97 MPOWER is same price as previous board, space for the noctua and 1st slot usable so that it is!

Think i might ditch the Barracuda as i have 6.5TB in NAS drives, just get a 500gb evo
EDIT: Second thought, price... stick with 250 evo + barracuda lol

You've been of alot of help, much appreciated 😀

Final Build, Case Closed =D pun intended? lol

Doubt any price drops in 3 weeks when it's wallet hammering time but one can hope

Oh, didn't see it was an IPS monitor. Hmm I guess you could keep it, but I'm not sure how good viewsonic monitors are since I haven't seen many people use one in their builds.

I'm betting that another IPS monitor will go on sale in a few months, but we'll have to wait and see.

curious of what your rig is like =P
yeah gamers tend to stick with TN at 1-3ms, but IPS 5ms performs super dooper paratrooper!
Guessing when going TN, they would be seated/viweing at the same angle i.e. chair/desk, but in IPS they might want to see the screen from i.e. couch/bed/(longer distances as well as just at desk)
Also prefer IPS for clarity in video/ high res photo editing aspect

EDIT had a few viewsonics 12-8years ago, pretty good quality and none had dead pixels, cheap brand but good quality
