GA-EP45-UD3P New problem

Hello,

I have been using a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P mobo for about 3 years with no problems. About 2 weeks ago I couldn't access one of my two DVD drives. I assumed a drive problem. About a week ago the HD access light came on solid and stayed on. I started getting error messages that some data such as the user profile could not be found. Now the machine has begun freezing up after it's been on for about an hour. No hardware has been changed.

The system is running XP professional. I am using RAID for my primary HD. There are a number of other drives on the system for data etc.

Any thoughts as to where to start?

To add to the confusion I've noticed that the CPU use shoots up to 25% when the machine freezes. I was able to run spybot which did not find any malware. My first instinct is a sata controller issue, but have not dismissed any other possibilities as of yet.

Any thoughts as to where to start?
