Hi,
64 bit computing for a system that is required to only run 3 apps is a bit
over the top, but then there is no point in not keeping up with technology.
I don't know what the price of these boards is and what price the
alternatives would have....
256 MB Ram minimum.
Good HD,
Good CD-RW so they can backup to re-writable CD's.
Anti Virus should really be budgeted in - *annually*.
If they are going to have xDSL or similar, then make sure you get a router
box with good basic firewalling built in as a minimum.
Windows XP? SP 2 will be out soon, so put that in the plan after a settling
period - it has a good basic inbuilt firewall (a nice addition to complement
your HW firewall) and will be the basis for all future XP patches, so if you
need a reason to put SP2 in, that is it. Make absolutely sure that SP1a is
installed then all critical updates before connecting to the internet.
Make sure you size the PSU correctly - this is perhaps the most common
failure point on computers these days after fans and HDD's. Get a quality
unit that exceeds requirements.
Check if a quiet system is required. If so select parts on this basis. IE
avoid components that are noisy or have fans. I see the motherboard
indicated has on board graphics, but if you change direction then a good
basic graphics card should be more than sufficient (IE no fan) and select a
mobo that does not need nor has a Northbridge fan.
I suggest soliciting responses on the motherboard - reliability of drivers
etc. SIS is not famed for hi quality drivers. Try googling for reviews and
so on.
2 cents...
