I recently built a new system with a GA-P55-UD3 motherboard and am getting random reboots (around 20 so far?). I've tried a number of things and have had no luck resolving this issue. I am in urgent need of help, as this is a work computer and I need to get back to work!

I've been trying to find a pattern, but nothing concrete. Here's what I have so far:
- Has only rebooted while in windows.
- Once rebooting starts, it happens more and more frequently (to the point where I don't even get to the login screen). Leaving the computer off for a while seems to reduce the frequency of reboots.
- It has happened twice while using Virtual PC.

Here are my current specs:
GA-P55-UD3R rev. 1.0
Intel i7-860
4x2GB OCZ3G1600LV4GK
Corsair VX550W
Radeon HD 4350
Western Digital 1TB
Windows 7 64-bit

Here's what I've tried to do so far:
- I originally bought the machine with 2x2GB Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C9.
- Installed Windows 7 64-bit. It rebooted a few times. During one boot up, it found errors on disk and fixed them. I could not get to the login screen after this.
- Updated BIOS to F3 and loaded optimized defaults. Didn't help.
- Reinstalled Windows 7 64-bit and all drivers (no Catalyst, though). Ran it on and off during the weekend at home. Ran Prime95 for 15 minutes with no issues. Watch an HD video with no issues.
- Brought it in to work on Monday. It worked until about noon, when it rebooted while in Google Chrome. Rebooted at 4:35 while not being used (I left at 4:30).
- Tuesday I was using it for a couple of hours. It rebooted while in Virutal PC. About 5 minutes later it rebooted while browsing in Google Chrome. Tried fail-safe, did not help. Tried adjusting RAM voltage to 1.64 (1.65 was not listed?). Didn't help. Could not get to login screen at this point. Left it for 10 minutes and tried again, but still couldn't get to the login screen. Left it for an hour and used it for 5 minutes and it rebooted. Left it for a little while longer and it didn't reboot for the rest of the day.
- Exchanged RAM for supported OCZ model. Installed 4 GB. Loaded Optimized defaults. Change voltage to 1.64. Ran a video in a loop for an hour, no problems. Ran the Windows 7 memory diagnostics in highest setting (2 passes). Ran from about 8pm until about 2:30am. It didn't find any problems. Booted up into windows autoamtically and ran until about 7am until I shut it off.
- It worked today from about 9am until 2:00pm or so with lots of usage. Rebooted while in Virtual PC.
- I found there was a new video card driver released yesterday. I installed it.
- I've checked the temperature a number of times, but it is always under 40c for both CPU and MB (something like 39c and 34c). It doesn't seem to fluctuate much.

I noticed after installing the supported OCR RAM, it listed in BIOS as 7-7-7-16 at 1066MHz instead of 8-8-8-24 at 1600MHz. I just ran Speccy and it's showing 7-7-7-19 at 533MHz(???). I'm not sure how to set this to 8-8-8-24 at 1600MHz.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Andy_Who, why don't you start a new thread. You're more likely to get fresh sets of eyes. Include all your components, links are helpful too, especially for RAM and PSU. Also, you said in your thread from Monday that you recently "did an update on [your] desktop PC". Does that mean you recently built your new pc, or did you recently update some component within it? If its the latter, include that in your post as well.

After you create the thread, post a link here and I'll be happy to take a look.

Same problem started on my PC. My config:

-Gigabyte P55-UD3R
-Core I5 750
-8 GB Corsair DDR3 1600 (running at 1333 mhz, 7-7-7-20 1.58 v)
-1 TB WD Caviar Black
-1 GB HIS HD4890

I have been using my PC since 6 months, there was no problem. It has just started to reboot randomly this week. No matter the CPU-GPU load level it restarts without any BSOD. I was using F5 BIOS for a while, there was no problem before. I tried F6, did not work, rebooted again. I switched to F4, still on observation. It is very annoying. What happeneded to my dear PC suddenly?

I'm having the same issue with a very similar config. I have the same memory and motherboard

Memory = CMX4GX3M2A1600C9
Motherboard = GA-P55-UD3R

I also have an ATI 4770
The CPU is an I5

I've noticed on my system that the Computer is rebooting about once a week. Once it reboots it might do it one more time on the next boot but after that it usually goes about another week.

It has been doing this ever since I built it about a year ago.

On saturday my cable internet went out and I found that the system started rebooting constantly. I started suspecting the internet so I disabled all of the drivers, unplugged all extra drives and peripherals. The only thing left attached were the keyboard, mouse, onboard audio, ATI video card, and the main HDD. The computer still reboot.

After I got my internet back up it seems to have gone back to the old reboot cycle again.

Is this a known issue? The guys at Frys recommended this memory with this motherboard. Any chance of me getting my money back or an exchange after a year?

This sounds like you had a program or a service, somewhere, that's got a memory or resource 'leak'. This happens more often than people are aware of: when a windoze program starts, it allocates itself a block of memory, from win's 'stock' of it, or maybe six or eight blocks, for various purposes; if the programmer got absent-minded, or the program/service is repeatedly terminating unexpectedly, the memory gets 'left behind'... Perhaps the program recurses, and allocates a bit each time - and, somewhere, the programmer missed a circumtstance where the recursion termination condition never gets met; there's all manner of ways to 'ditz up' windoze' 'garbage collection' - trust me, I've screwed up and 'exercized' most of 'em [:isamuelson:8]

The 'newer' the version of win (say, seven vs Xp), and the newer the programming tool (Visual Studio 2010 vs anything else!), the better the 'garbage collection' is, and the more help the programmer gets from the environment to remind him of the possibility - but these are still man-made artifacts, and, as such, are prone to problems!

So, I'm not sure that your earlier 'once a week' problem is closely related to your current problem; it's still possible, I just think not likely. Couple questions:

How is your cable modem connected? Most are a net cable, but some are USB - and this can be a challenge for GB boards. Did they give you a new modem?

Have you read the tried the 'Boot Loops' section, and tried the "...to break a 'boot-loop'" procedure in the Troubleshooting: second half of the 'sticky'?

I'm having the SAME problem. My computer either crashes in BSOD or it just randomly reboots.

I checked for heating problems and they were fine.
BSOD can happen any time - but mainly during loading time.. like loading a game or loading of Windows 7. But then I’ve had cases where it would just randomly shutdown and then auto start-up with no warning and even during BIOS load up! sheesh!

- latest BIOS

GA-P55-UD3
Core i7 860
2 x Crosairs DDR3 2GB XMS3 (also tried some Random Matrix brand 2GB ram)
Video Cards: Tried all sorts of video cards (old and recent 2010 releases)
PSU: Tried all sorts of PSU's 500w 650w and 700w coolermasters

I've done so many things as stated in this forum and none worked. So I'm left with no choice - throw away the motherboard and get an ASUS. Goodbye GIGABYTE. I will get back to you all when I get the new motherboard and let you know if this resolves the issue.

reason why i ask on this thread is because it is still unresolved - its the same continued problem that many are having. From what I can see nobody has been able to come up with a solution except for either changing RAM or motherboards - some of those that have changed RAMs have came back a few months later claiming that RAM wasn't the issue afterall. Has anyone come up with a solid solution yet becides changing hardware?

I started reviewing the thread. There's at least 3 different problems reported here and more than 5 people (I stopped counting at 5) claiming to have the same or similar problem. dEAne is right, you will get better help if you start your own thread. If you want to know if anyone found a solution which is not listed here then click on their name and send them a PM (private message). This thread is too old and likely won't get the attention you need to be of any real help.

In your new thread, include all components, OS, USB devices, etc, etc, and be specific about what you have tried.
