nothing is overheating but the alarm is going off - the only thing I can possibly think of is there is a rpm report of 0 for the psu. any ideas?

Or you can do basic checkpoint to clear CMOS and return to optimized default. In normal state, the alarm should not beep by default even there is overheat condition. If disabling all alarm function but still beep ~ there is kind of problem.
