GA-X58A-UD3R Sata 3 primary Hard drive

Hi, this is my first post.

I have a GA-X58A-UD3R system I just put together, with a 1TB Western Digital 6.0/Gbps hard drive. Right now for my Windows rating I'm only getting a 5.9 score for my primary hard disk. So I'm pretty sure I'm not utilizing the 6.0/Gbps feature of the hard drive.

From what I've read people have suggested that you have to put the primary hard drive on the SATA2_0 port. Also I'm using the given SATA cable that came with the motherboard so I'm assuming it's only a 3.0/Gbps cable.

So my question is do I need to put the primary hard drive on SATA2_0? Also would switching to a 6.0/Gbps cable solve this issue?

Your HDD is incapable of even the SATA2 300 Mb/s /device limit. There are ONLY a VERY FEW SSDs that can breach the SATA2 limit. However, "IF" you wanted to speed things up, you could add another {Duplicate} WD HDD in a RAID 0 (2 HDD) configuration or some other safer RAID that would require (4 or more HDD). {note: RAID 0 if you loose 1 drive the data on the other good drive becomes garbage data, and you'd have to totally reinstall everything + your DATA = Bye-Bye as well.}

In short your "1TB Western Digital 6.0/Gbps" simply means it has a SATA3 controler - period end of story, and performs about the same as its SATA2 WD counterpart.

You should connect your WD SATA3 HDD to GSATA3_6 port for best results {Primary} -...

how to get this specs with the marvel controller and the wd black sata3 64mb drive - cable issue ?

in my case i dont mind to use sata2 drive in primary SATA2_0 port - and the wd sata3 64mb on the marvel - this drive is for ultra fast sample working (DAW related)

I really appreciate the response, so I guess having the Sata 6.0/Gbps cable won't make a difference?
 

The wires are the same, but I like the ones with the secure locks. Also, you should see a marginal gain switching to the GSATA3_6 port, but if you system already works you "can" have issues moving the {Primary} HDD/SSD. If you do move the WD HDD read the BIOS info in my link above; AHCI. Plus, Check/Update your Boot Priority in the BIOS.

awesome. you guys solved my problem, didnt have to even stress about it. same mobo also. got a pair of 5770s rigged on it with a 930...

does anyone know if u have to update the bios in the mobo, cause my memory is showing as 1066, when it should be 1600... i believe the module is type fa...
