Gamers Screwed by Vivendi Universal

VU has screwed their customers. Particularly the Tribes franchise
since they just announced that they won't be releasing a long-promised
patch for Tribes:Vengeance. That was the last nail in the coffin for
Tribes.

It's bad enough that companies release software too early, but usually
they patch them soon after, incorporating fixes and balance issues
after seeing how the public at large hammers on it.

Never again will VU ever get my money.

i've been reading this group for quite some time and i never saw any
pc gamer complaining about bugs in tribes vengeance and you only need
patches if bugs do really exist! patches are not cosmetics! they only
are available if really needed! and just cause valve patches its games
every week that doesn't mean all other pc games are as BUGGY!

third do you know there can be un-official patches available that can
do the same job? and what did irrational games say about this?

so please tell us why are you really against vu? is it cause they are
defending the pc gamers and going against greedy arrogant monopolistic
selfish dictator valve?

Welcome to the club. It's looking very much like Ubisoft is just about to
announce they are screwing the very customers who put their best seller
Ghost Recon on the map - by not releasing Ghost Recon 2 for the PC, and
keeping it as a console only title. They have already announced Ghost Recon
3 for all formats, and PC gamers don't even have Ghost Recon 2 yet! BAH.

Sorry, should have supplied a link:

This was a post made to the official forum by one of their guys in
Marketing. (They locked that thread; it's official.)

There are balance issues. Tribes 2 was a better team-oriented game,
where it would take more than one person to defend or capture a flag.
With T:V, one good capper will dominate; there isn't a good defense
against someone zooming fast enough to avoid any turrets, etc. No
teamwork required.

Haven't heard about any un-official patches. Last I heard, they were
going to incorporate Punkbuster, which might have helped against cheaters.

This definitely means I won't be getting HL2.

I guess I'm spoiled by the Battlefield franchise. Even more than a
year after BF1942 came out, there were still patches and new maps
coming out. I'm going back to BF1942 and BFV for awhile until BF2
comes out ...

One light on the horizon for Tribes fans is that Renegades is getting
together with Legends to produce a free game based on the Torque
engine. This will be very cool:

See, that's why I quit at "Tribes 2".. their marketing weenies hijacked
the game between T1 and T2, and it showed. The patching got really bad
and the bugs (old and newly-created) drove a lot of the dedicated
players away from T2 and back to playing T1. I wouldn't be surprised to
hear there's some T1 clans out there still.

Tribes was the only game that could get me to stop playing Unreal and
Quake 2 when it came out, there'll never be another like it.

You can cut Vivendi out of the profits by purchasing it through Steam by a
credit card (if you have one). As far as I know, they're only responsible
for the Boxed distribution.

I see that the frothing insanity of "the asswipe formerly known as difool"
continues unabated.
