Hi. i recently downloaded the 64 bit windows 7 rc 7100, and upgraded to that from the windows 7 beta. on the beta i could game fine and never had any crashes. Now that i have windows 7 rc ( with proper drivers, direct x, etc.) EVERY game i play crashes after 5 to 10 minutes. In crysis it just quits. In CoD5 ill be playing and then it freezes and the sky turns black/ white lines/ colors usually come out of the barrel of my gun when its frozen (they done move, it almost looks like my lcd shattered), and everything onscreen looses reflections and becomes bland. In GTA IV is crashes. i can browse the internet fine without issue and the system is stable enough to run for hours. other than gaming the beta is great. I am frustrated and need help thanks. Heres my system if it helps:
i7 920 @ 4GHz w/ TRUE heatsink lga 1366.... yes its stable
GTX 260 OC'd to 750MHz core clock
4GB DDR3 1333mhz
850w thermaltake black widow psu
MSI x58 pro motherboard
---plenty of airflow with nzxt nemesis elite case-----

keep in mind that it is the same overclock as it was in the beta and the beta did not have any issues
thanks

It seems to slick. I haven't done extencive tests on vista though because like I said before it was a friends copy so I had limited time with it.

I just figured out that ctrl+alt+del snaps the compy out of its black out without having to restart (I honestly should of thought of that sooner) so we have a temparary fix.

If you don't mind try to see if turning your background changer off will fix it for you. Maybe try turning off aero as well. If you don't know how, just click on the windows basic button.

Maybe I'm making this too complicated to figure out...

@Kyle, well you can only find the solution if u try everything. So no, you're not going too far :). If u could do more testing on vista I'd love to hear how it works

And by snaping out of the blackout, do u mean that WHEN it crashes u can snap out of the blackout? Or do you mean that when u started the game and u press alt+ctrl+del and then go back in the game again, that it won't crash? Cause my games crash to desktop and hardly ever freeze.

I'll upload a crash report here when it happens again.

I just don't get it, everyone is pointing to a different solution and none has worked so far 🙁. I really hope we can figure this problem out because i want to play MW2 😛.

I don't know if we have the same problem here slick. My issue is that after a set amount of time of around 30 min the monitor will go into a standby type state. Mine dosn't exit to windows or generate a crash report. Thats why the tech says that its not his problem.

I've had no problems with MW2, it works perfect on my machine. Like I said before, the computer will black screen when the mouse or keyboard isn't touched for 30 min. I use a gamepad for a majority of my games (MW2 is not one of them).

ctrl+alt+del brings it out of the sleep mode but dosn't prevent it form hapening again. Its a temp solution because sometimes the computer refuses to wake up once in sleep but the key combination seems to work every time (so far).

Have you turned off Sleep mode? You can do this by going: Start > Search program and files > Type 'Sleep' > Click on 'change when the computer sleeps' > "Put the computer to sleep" to Never. Then it won't go to sleep anymore. Hope that solves the problem?

Thought u had the same problem as I did since this topic was about this in the first place xD.

Hi,

I can see that I am not the only one with problems :pt1cable:

I am playing Battlefield 2142 online and the game crashed once (back to desktop).

I also play CoD Modern Warfare 2. And during the single player the games crashed 7-8 times (reboot). One time in the beginning but the rest at the same place in the game. I had set the grafics to highest and 4x. When I changed the grafics to recommended I could finish the game without crash.

I also experienced serveral crash on a specific webpage?? There never was any issues with XP.

Also when the computer boots it cannot find any harddrives - but boots anyway. Unless I connect a 2nd harddrive then it will not boot without the installation DVD?? And I have tried everything in BIOS with boot priority etc. Anyone with a solution for this?

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Grafic: BFG GTX260
CPU: i5 750
Motherboard: Asus P7P55D Pro
Ram: 4x2GB Corsair Dominator (1600)
Keyboard: Logitech G15
Mouse: Logitech G9
Power: 550W (+80%)
(Everything is factory spec. and no overclock. Temperatur on CPU and motherboard never goes above 40C in the games I am playing.)

Brgds,
Soren

It's absolutely frustrating to see a game crash. And I don't see any solution for this problem neither here nor on other forums. I think I'll roll back to XP, until Microsoft guys doesn't decide to make a fix (or SP) for win 7 🙁

I didn't have any problem in windows 7 64 bit professional but I am having problems in windows 7 ultimate 64 bit such games as DIRT-2,FARCRY-2.Dirt-2 crashes after signing in and farcry 2 crashes after some minutes.DID anyone solve this?

I solved this nightmare by rolling back to XP. Finally, I play games without interruptions :). At this point, I'll wait for Win 7 SP1, before I reinstall this OS

GTX 260 Black Edition
A great card that needed a few fixes, this is the ONLY solution that will work for me.

To solve the issue of pink screen or games crashing install EVGA Precision 1.7.1 and turn down CORE CLOCK to 600 and MEMORY CLOCK 1000.(leave SHADER CLOCK as linked so it lowers automatically)
I am doing so without any crashes on L4D2, AVP3 etc,top end settings.
It is not a problem caused by heat, even if new Thermal paste is applied the GTX will still stop working. The card is capable of going over 90 degrees without crashing a game.
It crashes because this high end graphics card is being unnecessarily pushed by new game drivers(unsure who or how) making it unstable not just exclusively to games played on Steam.(Benchmark tests can still be run at original settings)

Just a minor drop in speeds for complete stabilty and still great graphics in game play.(these new setting are still higher than a standard GTX 260)
With the above settings the fan speed can still be run at 40%,although i prefer 59% as its relatively low on noise but keeps the temperature lower, running higher graphics in games.
I have it APPLY AT WINDOWS STARTUP, but is only needed for the games that are known to crash.
If anyone has improved clock speeds whilst still being stable it would be good to know.

I'm currently running 195.62 drivers and so far are working great, I wanted something slightly smoother than 186.18
They both run EVGA,the drivers released this year I had problems with.

One last point, I run both my monitor and HDTV from my GTX. Last week I made a mistake in getting a new DVI cable mixed up and used a cable that plugged DVI-D single link into the back of the GPU which is DVI-I dual. This caused the computer to randomly lose screen connection during/after boot up and in sleep mode (the reset button would have to be pressed to get post boot) and the GTX started getting very hot in game.
Luckily I realised in time when i switched on the 2nd screen to see it booting up fine and it was the connection to the monitor that was at fault and not my PC. Not sure if anyone else has made this same mistake.

Now AVP3 is out I will definitely be investing in a Arctic Accelero Xtreme to prolong the life of this monster of a card.

This is my 1st ever message on a forum,so i hope it has been useful.Below is a quick spec of my PC
Windows 7 64bit
Phenom 550 BE
NF980-G65
OCZ Platinum compatible RAM
XFX GTX 260 Black Edition version 1
600w Enermax PSU

Having the same exact type of errors playing Borderlands, Cod4, and Batman: Arkham Asylum. Same OS: 7 Ultimate x64. And like other posters said, ME2 runs with no problem [for longer at least.] i'm suspecting the OS too... i love 7 so i aint going back to XP, but thinking of reinstalling with 32-bit...

yep. logitech. i have a wireless keyboard with setpoint drivers and all that schnazz. i'll check it out and let you guys know. this topic had better get some notice... a lotta ppl are having the XACT same problem...

I've been playing Mass Effect 2 on my new Windows 7 x64 PC (nvidia gt 230; 8 gb ram). I've been experiencing the crashes to desktop that you've all experienced. Last night, in desperation, I ran the ME 2 launcher under "windows xp sp2" compatibility mode. I played for a couple of hours without crashing.

Has anyone else tried doing this (i.e running under compatibility mode)? I hope it's an actual fix, but I won't know for certain until I spend several more hours playing.

BTW, I know it's a reasonably common game design to have "checkpoints" in a level; that is, to have portions of the game where "save game" won't work. ME 2 has these checkpoints, and they occur during certain combat sequences. Since I tend to crash during combat, I find these checkpoints extremely frustrating. All of which is to say: up yours, Bioware!

Yeah, temporaryname, saves are annoying. i've played through the same mission in Borderland 5 times. 0_o Anyways, i haven't had a crash in a while, here's what i've done: disabled windows updates, uninstalled the latest C++ Runtime Dist., installed latest DirectX runtimes, graphics card drivers, and set the programs to run in compatibility modes. Its a long list so i dont know EXACTLY what the cause was just yet, but i'm gaming again, so i'm happy. 😀 lemme know if this helps...

Try This as it worked for me after playing with settings. First uninstall
all nividea and ati drivers and components that are included. Shut the
computer down and remove the second SLI or ATI card from motherboard and turn Pc back on and let windows 7 install drivers automatically. Next
turn the Pc back off and insert the second card back in it's second slot
and remove the first card . Turn Back on and let windows 7 install Drivers
automatically as it did the first(card must be in second slot). Turn Pc off and
put the first card back in and restart. In the game directories right click on
game exe. and select properties then the compatibility tab and click change
settings for all users and set privilege level to run as administrator and in
compatibility mode if needed. Also in the control panel of you graphics card
turn off anisotropic filter and vetical sync(for some reason they are buggy in windows seven). Games should play from start then games window. I have 11 games for windows title and all of them crashes before. After i went about these steps i manage to get all of my GFWL games to run.
Test Gears of war in SLI and for 2 hours it played multiplayer with no crashes.

System

CPU - AMD 64 X2 6400 stock
Ram - 6gb 667mhz
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA -M57SLI-s4
2 Nvidia 8800gt (512) in SLI
Windows 7 RC 64bit
5 cooling fans
5 1tb Western Digital 5400rpm Hard Drives(For MCE as i converted over 1200 dvds to make living room space)

Hopes this helps as it did for me cause i was ready to trash windows 7
and go back to vista.

well I have solved my crashing by upping the cpu voltage a bit (from 1.2 to 1.35, actually 1.35 seems to be the standard for phenom II).. i could be that final version of win 7 needs more power than the beta.. anything else did nothing for me but now my system has been crash free for one month...

Yes, Agree with your solution strategy. How can we repair windows 7 problems ?

Same problems I had faced some month before. In my view best site for such type of support is Windows PC support

Hey guys ,,
well i have the exact same problem ,, after playing for like 5-10 minuts the game crash and the screen turns into pink or some times green color and i have to physically restart the system.

well i've been looking for a solutions for months and nothing so far ,, im running win 7 ultimate 64

but recently somthing cought my attintion ,,
some guy at work just got a branded PC "HP-Elite" it runs win 7 pro 64bit and here are the specs:
Intel C2D 6600 @ 2.93 Ghz
4GB DDR
ATI HD 4650 - 512mb
psu 450w (thats all i could figure out about his system)

here is the thing ,, i tried a game on his pc (cod mw2) played for one and a half hour , no crashing .. tried far cry 2 also no crashing..

both games crash on my pc ,, and here are my specs:
Intel C2D E7400 @ 2.8 GHz
Gigabyte G41m-ES2l
4 GB OCZ DDRII
ATI HD 4670 - 1 GB
psu gigabyte 550W

is it maybe his PC has custom drives from HP? even though he is running an older ATI driver

one more thing about this XP MODE under win 7 ,, your CPU must suppoert virtulization in order to do this ,, sadly mine dont

if any one have a solution , please help us

Well there's one solution that helps for some games temporarily, When in game you go to Task Manager and under Processes you find the game you're playing, then you right-mouse click on that and click on Set Affinity, disable all your CPU''s except for 0. This way i managed to play quite a lot of games again, but it's not the ultimate solution, and some games are still immune to the strategy.

I actually think i'm going to get a different installation of the OS, like the x64 professional, since that has already been stated above as a solution. It's the x64 ultimate that is giving the problems so it seems. I blame the OS and nothing else, going to install a different version and wait for sp1 then i guess....
