Hello, I have a bit of a confusing problem that has started in the past few days.
While playing some games, the monitor will flash a sort of dull color for a couple seconds, black out, and then return. The effects on my programs from this varies quite a bit. Some games just crash, others continue with audio playing, and I can even hit escape and open menus based on the sounds, but when I alt-tab onto the game, I get no video from it. This happens with some programs I have open while the game is running as well, such as discord or battle.net launcher. Discord occasionally stops responding, but works until I try clicking on it, and the battle.net launcher has the same strange video problem some games have. The issue also has a different rate of occurence with different games, that does not seem to be tied to the relative stress the game should be putting on my video card. For example, it has happened maybe 2-3 times in PUBG over the course of 2 weeks, but happens within 15 minutes on this game called The Council.

Motherboard: ASUS Z170K
PSU: Rosewill Quark 650 Platinum
CPU: I5 6600K LGA1151
GPU: EVGA GTX 980Ti 6gb
RAM: Panram Ninja-V - 2 8GB sticks
