Hello,

I made a custom rig for gaming and it worked great. Then for some reason it would have issues with games.

It freezes with no sound and only a hard reset will restart the computer as it becomes unresponsive.

It does this at different periods of the game. I have tried EVGA Precision x to increase fan speed and temperature settings; reduced game graphics; reinstalling games.

I took it into a computer shop, the replaced the motherboard and I removed RAM that were different so only two cards bought together as the same speed etc.

Any ideas?

Thank you,
Layloria

the one thing that u shd have looked at is ur gpu instead of mobo and ram...
i think, ur gpu stops rendering after a certain fps level when graphics density becomes intense...
is ur gpu driver updated???
do u recollect any changes to ur system around d time this started???
sometimes, some windows updates can mess up ur graphics card...
did u reinstall windows???

Update: it crashed whilst watching a film?!

Also I'll give my specs:
AMD FX 9590 4.7ghz 8 core
16GB RAM @ 1600mhz
Gigabyte FX Motherboard
Nvidia GTX 960 4GB
EVGA Bronze 500w PSU
Windows 10

I upgraded to 10 from 7 thinking it could help and a lot of my files got deleted in the process but only download files in my download folder

Should I try a new hard drive as it is 2TB and has lots of stuff on it and it is cheaper for me to test than a new GPU

I'm running a memtest I have non ECC no buffered 8gb x 2 @ 1600mhz
Last time I checked it was on 1/4 test 13
I've updated and reinstalled all my drivers and removed my motherboards drivers and replaced them with online versions.
It happens randomly during gameplay with little to no difference on graphic settings; it happens on gAmes and rarely on watching videos but it has in the past.

No errors on either card

Changed slots to 2,4 nothing
Changed graphics card slot to PCI-e x16 slot 2
Nothing

Problem persists
Change graphics to low, persists
Changed graphics to high, persists

Changing graphic quality doesn't affect the time it takes to crash.
PSU is EVGA bronze 500w
No errors appear on information centre at time of crash
No devices in device manager indicate error or warnings

My cpu is fx 9590 4.7ghz no overclock
Could it be my HDD or CPU?

cud be...but ideally i wont suspect the cpu right away...usually cpu issues cause much worse problems than sporadic crashing...
u need to check ur hdd and gpu now...in that order...
download hard disk sentinnell and check the hdd health...
if d hdd is diagnosed allright...thn u have to stress test d gpu...

Hi,

I'm suspecting PSU as looking at AMD FX 9000 series information it definitively States that a 600w supply unit is minimum requirement.

My builder placed a 500w supply in it stating its more than enough which I assume they based on the graphic card supply of 400w recommendation.

Would a PSU cause the issue at hand because it's nowhere near powerful enough for the CPU which probably needs 750w
