So lately my games (all demanding games) just lock up for a few seconds, sound repeating, screen freezes and then just continues as normal. In GTA5 it's worse because I get disconnected after the freeze stops. They said I should try setting my screen to 60Hz instead of 144Hz(?). Which kinda worked... Still had a freeze but not a long one I got disconnected.

Turning on v-sync resulting in 60fps gave me no freezes. But this kinda defeats the purpose of my 144hz dedicated screen, I bought it just for that. Is my gfx card locking up because its running too fast or something or is it just coincidence? I really wanna fix these freezes and not play on 60Hz because thats just horrendous.

Might be worth mentioning I've always had issues gaming even with my old graphics card(970), although that one was worse where it would just totally crash forcing me to reboot instead of freezing. Maybe it's PSU related? How can I check for sure?

Thanks

No I didn't use the geforce settings, I just set everything to max manually. And the game runs great, above 120 fps at all times, temps are fine it's just these random freezes that ruin it, in EVERY game, like CSGO at max settings or BF1 at max settings, all running great. GPU usage is at 90 or higher alot too maybe thats the cause? Since it goes down alot when I limit the fps to 60.

No that's normal. I configured my graphics settings so my gtx 1070 is maxed out as close to 100% utilization as I can get it to. Based on what you've stated is that when you turn vsync on, it lowers your FPS to 60. That tells me your monitor is not running at 144hz, otherwise your ping would be locked at 144 especially for gsgo. In windows, right click on your desktop background and select display settings then click advanced display settings. Now click display adapter properties and go to the monitor tab. What is your refresh rate set at?

nonononono, I said that I do run my screen at 144Hz but for troubleshooting purpose as rockstar support suggested I set it to 60hz so I could turn on v-sync to limit my fps, which fixed the freezes

Yeah I had my suspicions that it could be the psu. Had this one a year, this is my first and only psu I've used for like 3 mobo's now. I think getting a new one is a good first step. Which psu's do you guys recommend for my build?

If you are running only one graphics card, you rarely need more than 550w. Especially with out efficient the gtx 1000 series has become.
These are two that I purchased recently and they've been working well, so I can vouch for these:

I'm not sure power supplies are skylake
I have older systems, so I made sure the last seasonic I purchases was "haswell certified". You might want to double-check and ensure your PSU is 6th gen certified to take full advantage of the power states, should you need that technology.

I put a cooler master 650M in there but I'm still having hitches and lockups

Mhm, you sure it could be the gpu since my previous gpu had smiliar(but worse) issues?

That's a good point, I didn't know that. In your OP you specified the issue was happening "lately". Was your previous and current gpu installed into the same motherboard?
Also:
What happens if you hook your computer up to different outlet, not using the same power strip?
OR what happens if you take your computer to a different residence, that has a totally different electrical system?

Using a different plug didn't work. Apparently I even happens while in the main menu, fps drops to 1-5 and gpu usage goes down to about 10. Think I'm gonna return the gpu to the shop anyway and see if that does anything

So I got my new graphics card finally. They just gave me a new one since it was beyond repair apparently. But I'm still having the freezes... It's driving me nuts!!! If it's not the psu, or the gpu then what is it??

nope didn't work. also my speakers start to buzz in-game heavily when it's in the other slot .... weird.

3B.0
