Question Games lagging and I have no idea why.

I play Apex Legends and Rocket League mainly and these games are proper lagging, RL to the point where I can't even play it. Just trying to find out why, I have built my own PC, pretty sure its nothing to do with the specs of the PC but I will put my specs below. I'm thinking it's to do with the network but I've had people out that have changed the router and all sorts but nothings sorting the problem. I never used to have any problems with lag about 6 months back, but all of a sudden its just not happy with it. Any help would be appreciated.

If the lagging comes and goes then take a look at system performance using (to start with) Task Manager and Resource Monitor.

Use both tools but only one tool at a time.

Open the tool window and expand so you watch what is happening.

Just let the system sit for a while and stabilize.

Then open one game as normal and play as usual. Leave the tool window viewable.

Watch for what changes when the game lags.

It will take a bit of trial and effort to get a sense of it all.

Objective simply being to discover what system resources are being used, to what extent, and what is using any given resource when the system lags.

Or maybe something that starts running or even stops running.

So I am using an ethernet into a wifi pod, but even when I was using ethernet straight to the router this was happening, getting High Latency and Packet Loss.

Nah, offline games work fine, so i'm thinking its a network issue, but not sure how to sort it.

check the line with your isp, ideally connect via ethernet while testing
check if the router´s firmware and your network driver is up to date
check if your firewall blocks anything

Pretty standard test to see where the issue is.

First make sure you test with ethernet to your router or your results will be contaminated by the wifi in the path.

Open 2 cmd windows. Leave a constant ping run to your router IP and to a common IP like 8.8.8.8. You likely will see no issues in the ping to the router but if you do it tends to be a issue with something in the pc software. If you see no issue to the router but issues to 8.8.8.8 there likely is some issue with the connection coming to your house. It can be huge spikes in the latency or packet loss. Packet loss would be a better thing because the ISP will fix that, latency issues the ISP first level techs do not really understand.
