Games still lag even after upgrade

I fail to see what causes the stuttering and lag on my games.
I am playing on my notebook which has:
Intel Core i5-6200U 2.80 GHz
Nvidia GeForce GT940MX 2GB DDR3
12 GB DDR4 RAM (upgraded yesterday from 4GB)

I notice things start to lag when I turn the resolution up. I monitored the stats using MSI's Afterburner OSD setting and my GPU isn't even at its maximum state (the VRAM is about 1.2GB or less)

That CPU is pretty slow. What does the CPU use % get to when it is lagging?

And you have it plugged in right? It is set to high performance mode in the power options?

It is overheating? What temps are you getting?

Yes I did... temps are about 80C
