Hey!
So for about a year (yeah I know a pretty long time) my games that NEVER EVER lagged started lagging. I mean I was able to play Borderlands, Cod MW2, MW3 on low-medium graphics. Now they lag and are unplayable. Even Call of Duty 2 lags!!!

I've reinstalled my os several times... Games still don't work.

I have a very old pc but here are my specs:
AMD Athlon 2800+
1 GB RAM
Nvidia 7200gs
Windows 7

Probably it's a problem with temps. please watch your temps carefully and tell me how it turns out.
I had the same problem on my old computer, my temps started to reach 70-90 and all the games started lagging.

Thank you for the reply, but my graphics card temps were always over 70 even when I start my pc. And back in the day when those games worked the temps were still the same.

did you download anything before it started lagging? maybe windows 10 or some drivers.

defragmentation works automatically in a weekly biases. there is no need for it , but i agree with the cc clean suggestion. it might fix the problem.
and also try downloading a antivirus then scan your computer for viruses. maybe you have a virus which slows your computer.

Nope I haven't downloaded anything and it was actually way before windows 10 came out. But I've tried windows 10 too... and it is even slower than windows 7.

I have an antivirus and I have no virus on my pc. Like I said even after reinstalling the OS they still lag.

I use CCleaner on a daily basis but anyway I'll try some other antiviruses to see.

this is weird.. i think this is not a software problem. maybe it's a hardware problem.
try taking the computer to a shop and let them check it.

Thanks but , is there really nothing to do about it?

No it didn't fix anything. It wasn't me who chose that answer.

Lol i just noticed.
anyways i don't know if there is anything you can do about this.. i'm not very experienced but i did get a simiar problem and it was a hardware problem.. also by default, most people will think it's hardware when it happens suddenly but i don't know why i told you these recommendations.
so for now take it to a shop with a experienced computer engineer and let him check what is the problem exactly.
also tell me later the cause of the problem. it was nice to talk to you ^^
Good Luck

Run prime95 or IntelBurnTest (linpack), memtest and GPUTest.

Do those stability tests, they'll expose any instability in your hardware.

In your case, don't run these with any other programs.

Monitor your temps too or you might end up burning out some stuff.

Also, your rig is give or take a decade old, most people upgrade within 3-5 years due to advancements in tech and software etc., I would seriously consider upgrading as you're already using a 09 OS with 02-06 hardware. From today that's 13 years for your CPU. I don't even know how you manged to use your computer with Windows 7, especially with games running unless you turned off nearly all the features and were using basic mode.

game lag can be caused by many a thing. everything from bad drivers to fragmented hdd's to bad internet.

but the biggest problem you have is the o.s it will be using more than 1 gig as win 7 with sp1 uses about 1.2 gigs which means every time you try to run something you will be caching to to the hdd page file and this is more than likely where the problem lies.

you best bet is to find a stripped down version of windows xp. just run the basic install and then clean it out of things you dont need like spooler sys service and the likes. your games should then start playing a little better. but the reality is you need more ram. so go to your local pc recycling center or repair shop and ask if they have 2x2 gigs of ram for a reasonable £10-£20. that alone will likely solve your issue.
