Hi All,

Was building for my brother however have come across some shop built unbranded systems which will save me the headache. Last build I did has a 4670k / gtx780 for myself with everything else top shelf for 2013 and overclocked still punching 1080p for what I play but his budget doesn't run so far for everything top shelf. What would be the better choice (yes I know the ssd is horrible but I cannot change these builds and can change that later). All incl windows 10.

Also having always used Nvidia would I be correct in saying the 580 is quicker than the 1060 6gb from benchmarks it suggests so.

Option 1 - Ryzen - $1299aud - Never built an AMD and notice it suffers compared to i5 single core performance.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5-2600 6 Core 3.4GHz
MB: Asus PRIME B450M-A
VGA: Asus Radeon 8G AREZ STRIX RX 580 OC
Ram: GeIL EVO POTENZA 8G KIT (4GBx2) DDR4 3000 (AMD version)
SSD: WD Green 240GB M.2 SSD
HD: Seagate 3.5" BarraCuda 2TB SATA III Hard Disk Drive
Case: Armaggeddon KAGAMI K-1 (Black) ATX Case without PSU
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower GX1 500W 80Plus Gold Power Supply

Option 2 - Intel - $1189aud - Hate the PSU

CPU: Intel Core i5-8400 2.80GHz
Motherboard: MSI 360M Bazooka
Memory GeIL EVO FORZA 8G KIT (4GBx2) DDR4 2400
Graphic Card Asus Radeon 4GB RX 570 ROG STRIX OC
SSD: WD Green 240GB M.2 SSD
Hard Disk Seagate 3.5" BarraCuda 2TB SATA III Hard Disk Drive
Thermaltake LitePower Gen 2 650Watt Power Supply
Case: Rotanium TG301 Blue LED USB3.0 Gaming Case with 4 x Tempered Glass

Option 3 - Intel - $1349 - Pushing the budget

CPU: Intel Core i5-8400 2.80GHz
MB: MSI 360M Bazooka
VGA: MSI Radeon 8G RX 580 ARMOR OC
Ram: GeIL EVO POTENZA 8G KIT (4GBx2) DDR4 2400
SSD: WD Green 240GB M.2 SSD
HD: Seagate 3.5" BarraCuda 2TB SATA III Hard Disk Drive
Case: Armaggeddon KAGAMI K-1 (Black) ATX Case
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower GX1 500W 80Plus Gold Power Supply

Thank you guys

The pci express lanes are a non issue for a general home user, can't really argue about wireless vr BUT there is ample bandwidth for lan cards & nvme drives, most boards m2 slots run from the cpu chipset not the board.

I would go ryzen but in all honesty I wouldnt go prebuilt.

All those systems have niggles & some lower end parts that would put me off personally.u lding now you also want 16gb ram, 8gb isn't really enough unless you're severely budget limited.

I also don't think the tough power gx1 500w (although it's fairly decent) is enough for an RX580.

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor ($255.20 @ Newegg Australia)

No. Only PCI E X1 lanes are 2.0
I am using cheap AMD Ryzen 3 2200G with GTX 1050 TI it is running at 3.0 and x16. So you are wrong here about PCI E lanes.

no I am not wrong , I am talking about chipset lanes and not CPU lanes.

The CPU lanes will be used only for GPU in AMD. and if you want to add cards like Virtual Reality Wireless card you will need 3.0 lanes in the other slot.

also if you want to add fast Lan cards or NVME cards in the future you will need PCIe 3.0 slots as well ...

Yes chipset lanes are 2.0
But It wont effect much.

it will effect if you plan on adding cards.

for example wireless VR will not work at all .

and SSD cards will run half speed.

if you dont plan to add cards then it is okay.,

You need to add windows yourself, but with the use of an 8gb flash drive you can make a g oita me image from the ms website & use it free & inactivated with a few minor restrictions.
