hi i am looking for a good gaming cpu dont think i can afford an i7 but i want something that is going to last playing games on ultra for a good wile i have a radeon hd 6850 gpu so i am all set there and the rest of the system is pretty much built

i have been looking at the fx cpus and to be honest im not that empressed when intel are using 2 cores and performing better the an amd 8 core

iv looked at the phenom ii x6 that looks like it could be a good buy
any idvice or help on this would be helpfull

I would go for an i5 2500. Get the 2500k if you ever plan on overclocking.

It also depends on what type of games you want to play. But i5 can cover pretty much anything. My main system is a phenom II and my wife's i3 2100 out-performs it in quite a few situations. I would definately stick with intel for gaming.

well i would like to play crysis 2 dx 11 (ultra) pack thats why i got a 2gb gpu
not planning to overclock not until i need too lol

I would assume the i5 2500 can handle that (and pretty much anything out there right now) as far as gaming goes. Its gaming performance is equal to the 17 in most cases that i have seen.

The Intel® Core™ i5-2500K is the best gaming processor on the market right now in terms of performance vs. value. While might see a small performance increase by going with the Intel Core i7-2600K because the clock difference but that is about it.
