I have an Asus PG248 gaming monitor. It is rated up to 180 hertz refresh rate. I bought this monitor as part of a Black Friday sale last year. I currently use an Intel i5-7600K CPU. I am also currently using an Asus GTX 970 Strix which I intend to replace next year with either a GTX 1070Ti or its Nvidia Volta successor GTX 2070 or possible the GTX 2080. I read somewhere that the i5-7600K could bottleneck the refresh rate at 180 hertz. I was not aware of this possibility until recently. I was wondering if there was a way for me to lower the maximum refresh rate of my monitor to say either 120 or 144 hertz. If so, how would I accomplish this? There is an overclock option in the monitor's menu display. Is this where I could set the maximum refresh rate if I wanted to set it below 180 hertz? Also, if the overclock menu sets both a max and minimum refresh rate, what would be the minimum refresh rate that you guys would recommend? I am not overclocking my computer at this time. My OS is Windows 10 64-bit.
Right now, my monitor is getting prepped to be sent back to the manufacturer for repair. If Asus does not do a satisfactory job repairing the monitor, I will possibly replace it with a 4K monitor. I have seen some 4K gaming monitors at one of my local retail stores rated at 60 and 75 hertz. I am aware that currently The GTX 1080 Ti is still not entirely smooth with playing games at 4K resolution at 60 hertz. Besides being a gamer, I am also a drone pilot and my drone is capable of recording video at 4K. I will be doing basic drone video editing for tasks such as roof and structural inspections and will not be making Hollywood movie type videos. If I do replace my monitor with a 4K display, what standard and/or gaming monitors would you recommend that would be capable of handling games and displaying 4K drone video footage? The price range I am looking at is around $600 or less.
Also, with regard to 4K, I know that game play such as Battlefield and Call of Duty are more GPU intensive than CPU. If my CPU cannot handle a game at 4K, then I will switch to 1080p resolution. Can my CPU handle 4K gaming and 4K video from my drone flights?
Thanks.
