Hi

I just built a gaming pc and with summer close I was wondering if I'd be able to run both the AC unit and pc on the same outlet? I have the pc and monitor plugged into a surge protector

Solution
That's good to know.
Assuming you are in North America, your household voltage is ~110-115v.
Knowing volts and wattage, we can determine the Amperage draw for the PC -
A=Watts/Volts
A=310/110
= 3 Amps !
So, 3 amps for the PC + 5 for the AC = 8 Amps...that's not bad at all, based on typical circuits handling 15+ Amps.
Again, that depends on what else is on the circuit and that it wasn't run with speaker wire.

You would need to know what kind of Amperage the PC draws and what the AC unit draws (and what else is on that circuit).
The amperage for the AC unit should be on a sticker on it, and you can calculate your PC draw by using online calculators (if you know your hardware). Most home circuits for typical use are 15 or 20 amp max. Worse case, you trip the breaker/blow a fuse, assuming it's using a properly rated one. The breakers have their rating right on them.. figure out which one is yours.

The AC unit is rated at 4.8 amps and if I remember correctly my pc draws around 310 watts. Sorry I'm still a newbie at this

I have a tv and a few consoles on the power strip. But worse case I can unplug a few of the consoles. The tv is new and is energy efficient

depends, some outlet have kinda small limit in power because of the cable used for the plug or some other things. try to use it on that outlet and see are you getting any trouble
