I have a grand to spend on a new pc. I already have psu, dvd drive, and 1 gig of RAM. I'm looking at everything else, plus a new case.

I know this gets asked daily, but answers change daily. AMD prices are wicked low right now, but I need this to keep me going for awhile. I dont know anything about Core Duo either.

It's not going to be often I get the OK from the wife on these kinda things. As a matter of fact, I think the guys down below are freezing their asses off right now. Appreciate any help.

I would go to monarch computer an dget a barebones Turia with a 5000+. The chance of getting a Core 2 in retail right now are slim to none and P4 should have never been made.

I talked to a guy who put together a SERIOUS AM2 system for around that price.

YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

You might want to add what kind of ram you have as it might have to come out of the budget as well if you have something like pc133.
also what will you use the pc for if it s for surfing you dont need a video card for that.
ahhhh screw it buy a dell.

Yea, and he got ripped off.

Rotate. I have a 4400+ and have successfully run 1.7 GB of programs and STILL play Q4 HQ @ 1280 w/2GB RAM. The 5000+ is faster than an FX60 with CAS4 667.

Did I mention that when I quit D3 or Q4 my HDD doesn't run AT ALL.

And before you say anything CAS3 400 DDR is faster than CAS4 400 DDR.

If Core 2 was plentiful I'd recommend it.

Unfortunately it's not.

Unfortunately it's not.

But, if you told him to wait for a week he could get a much better performing processor.

Several reputable reports are saying that Intel will only have 1 million out of who knows how many nonCore 2:

translation:

You'll get Core 2 volume retail in October, maybe Nov, depending on changes in monthly output.
