Hi,

My current rig is shown below:

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor - Overclocked
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 5
Memory: G.Skill Sniper Series 16GB PC3-14900; F3-14900CL9d-8GBSR - Upgraded to 16GB
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 500 GB SSD; MZ-7TE500BW
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 Gaming
Case: Fractal Design Meshify C Case
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 PS 1000W Platinum Modular Power Supply)
Fan & HS: EVGA CLC 280 Liquid / Water CPU Cooler - Upgraded
Monitor: BenQ XL2720Z
Software: Windows 10

I am looking to upgrade my CPU, MOBO and ram, and am looking for a decent cost effective setup to improve my performance. Currently, with my setup, I struggle to max out BF1 & BFV without some shuttering. I think my GPU is good, but my CPU is having performance issues (it is quite dated).

What are some recommendations for upgrading my rig? I was thinking of a i7-9700k. I am looking to spend around $1000 CAD. I would like to get the ability to play 1440p gaming without any stuttering, and maintain 120 fps and higher.

Thank you,

Sebastian

your slow down is your processor. with those 3 items and 1k budget. maybe a ryzen 7 or 9. 9 might be a bit overkill for a gaming pc tho. the ryzens have been getting better performance then intel in there 3000 series.

yes you can. will just be more difficult to cool.

currently the ryzen 7 3700x is on par with the 9700k with ghz. unless you are going extreme overclocking for the fun of it. the 7 will outperform the i7 in every thing else now.

2000 series and i would say intel still best. but 3000 series, amd finaly pulled ahead.
