Keep in mind this is a default motherboard from gateway and has absolutely no customization.

I installed an i5 3550 into the mobo and it's been overvoltage to 2.00 volts ever since I put the cpu in. The odd thing is it runs at decent sub 35 temps with an Intel stock cooler. I'm not sure what's up with this or how to possible fix it. The only thing I could think of is that there was a circuit damaged somewhere on the mobo.

Also it randomly turns off once in a while and I suspect that the overvoltage is the problem.

Could it be a problem with the cpu itself?

2.0v is probably a false reading. If that was true the CPU would die the moment you turned on the computer. I'd suspect a bad power supply or bulging caps on the motherboard. Gateway is pretty low on the totem pole, even Dell makes better products compared to them

I was thinking the same thing. Could you define bulging caps. And I bought some ape via 500 watt off of newegg. I was guessing that was the culprit but the voltage scared me into thinking it was a problem with the mobo.

Could you make a suggestion for a relatively cheap psu rated @ enough wattage to run a system with an HD 6850 in it.

I looked up that APEVIA power supply. 500W and doesn't have a single PCI-E connector. Dead giveaway that it's garbage.

I suggest getting an EVGA 430W. Reliable, cheap and comes with a 3 year warranty.
