Pretty sure this is a Gateway issue, not a Windows problem. My
caplock, number lock, volume indicators have gone missing. What do I do to bring them back?

I am not very computer savvy. I have reinstalled the utility. Now what?

Nope. I so appreciate that you have taken the time to help me. I keep thinking there must me some easy, "push two button" fix for this. I know others have had this problem, but have yet to find a solution.

What do I do next?

Just to be sure, after you downloaded that file from Gateway you unzipped it then went into the unzipped folder and ran the setup file?

Well, there's an option remaining to do a system recovery. This brings the laptop back to the original factory condition. Though it's a somewhat extreme measure it does have performance benefits; it will clear any issues slowing down the system and restore it to out-of-the-box performance. After this you would have to re-install updates and whatever programs you installed. Many system recovery utilities have the abillity to save your personal files though it's always advisable to keep those backed up somewhere separate.

Look for a program called "eRecovery Management" under the heading Gateway (or possibly Acer since the Gateway brand is now owned by Acer group). This will have the option to restart the PC into recovery mode.
