GeForce 9600 GT Blue Screen Crash

I've upgraded my graphics card from a GeForce 8500 GT to a 9600 GT
and it crashes during the windows loading screen. The blue screen says it could be a driver or hardware installation. There is also a screen before the windows loading screen that says: AMD Data Change... Update new data to DMI! It worked the first time I used it with slight graphical errors but when I restarted my system it crashed. Ive installed new drivers for my graphics card and motherboard but nothing seems to work. Is the motherboard not compatable with GeForce 9 series? My system is as follows:

Windows Vista 32-bit SP 1
AMD Phenom 9500 Quad-Core Processor
ECS MCP61PM-GM motherboard with nVidia 430 chipset
GeForce 8500 GT
6.00 GB RAM
500 GB Hard Drive

The 8500 GT ran just fine but alas, I am a man, and as a man I must always upgrade. Any information about this problem would be helpful?

what is your psu model? It is possible that you are not getting enough power to you card -- they most generally have a power imput on em because of the amount of power they require.

Your chipset does support your card and you shouldn't have a driver problem if your 8500 works.

Other thing im wondering is if your pc is a hp/acer/gateway ... ect..

My PSU model is Delta Electronics model # DPS-300PB-3A. My PC is a Gateway Model # GT5674. 300w is probably not enough power to run the 9600 GT. I have a 550w PSU I'm going to try that now. I'll post a reply to let you know how it goes. Thanks for the input.

Well I was wrong, I gave a friend my 550w PSU. My curent PSU has a 6 pin power connector. It should power my 9600 GT, right? Would I need a Bios update? My Bios is Phoenix - Award WorkstationBIOS v6.00PG

Specs for 9600GT

Here it shows you need a Minimum 400W psu. It's a common problem with these newer Graphics card.

You should always try to have the latest bios for your pc. Especially when adding hardware! So yes do update if there is one available. Unfortunatley I believe it's your PSU

I replaced my old PSU to a BFG BFGR550WGXPSU, but it still crashes. I've ran a memory diagnostic and everything checked out fine. Anyone with any info please help.

Now that you have the new psu, i'd check it with the old card. If it loads with no problem then you may have a bad card. Be sure to clear your cmos and check that your ram is properly seated, it's usually a tight fit with these bigger cards. If you can boot with the other card or the vga on the back, uninstall the nvidia drivers and then reinstall with the latest driver set from Nvidia. Also check that your northbridge drivers are up to date also.

How do I clear my cmos? I can't seem to find my northbridge drivers on the ECS website. I'm going to reinstall my Nvidia drivers just to be sure. Thanks for all of the help.

Shist, reinstalling the Nvidia drivers did'nt work, and my ram is seated properly. XFX has not goten back to me yet. Can anyone tell me a mew mobo and cpu, mabye I need to upgrade.

Hi there im just leaving this reply for those researching, i understand its 6month old but i have just got over a blue screen situation that took me weeks to figure out..

I finally figured it out last night and thought that it may help others..

It may not..

Here goes

i purchesed the XFX 9600GT card (low power, requires no additional power via direct connection to a power reply)

every time i tried to play a game it would last roughly 15min before i was faced with a blue screen and a pc restart..

I am running Windows Vista home

-450watt psu
-1.5GB ddr2 ram
-AMD X2 5600
-500GB

Sometimes the blue screen would say something like this (very roughly, i didnt have time to see before it restarted)

page error in non paged file

other times...

driver error

1.No in order to recover from this error, i re installed windows vista on a newly formatted HDD

2. Purchased a new 1GB ram, leaving my existing 512 in the system

3. Ran the Vista memory diagnostig (extended test which can be applied by pressing f1 in the diagnostic test).

In doing this i was told there was an error, windows did not state what the error was so i just assumed it was the 512 RAM stick as i had placed a new 1GB in the other slot.

4. Inserted a new 512 stick to replace the (assumed) faulty one.

5. Restarted the pc.

6. Installed 67 windows updates, automatically gathered by windows update.

7. Installed the drivers which CAME with my graphics card, not the up-to-date ones.

The driver version i used was : 7.15.11.8242

so if you can fin that it should work

8. restart the pc

After i did all of this i was ble to play a game which i couldnt before for about 1hour and i was not botheres by ANY errors at all..

The only other thing i did which i did not mention above because im not sure it contributed the helping the problem or not, i increaded the fan speed on the graphics card upto 100% instead of 30%..

I did this with rivertuner, a free over/under clocking utility available via searching on google

Hope i manage to help some of you as this really did my balls in!!
