[citation][nom]gladiator_mohaa[/nom]The site belongs to those who own Toms Hardware and they can post whatever they want. I will still come and read their news, and besides....why are people seem so anxious to click on a title of news they "DON'T CARE ABOUT" just to complain when what does it really hurt for Tom's to put up anyway? It drives me insane when people waste their time to complain about something so small an insignificant thinking they are the only person in the world who reads Tom's.[/citation]
...because there are a few obsessive trolls who can't help but flood Nvidia news posts with immature comments, half truths, and misguided assumptions. I've been buying Nvidia GPU's since G80, but I was still Very excited when the HD5870 was released... I just have trouble understanding this level of hate for a company and its products. I can understand how people can dislike Nvidia, especially given the performance and implementation of the HD5000 series, but some people just have a chip on their shoulder when it comes to 'anything' Nvidia related.

These were the same people who've been screaming at the top of their lungs for months, trying to convince others that Nvidia's initial top part would have no more then 448 cores, that Fermi would be impossible to manufacture, that the die area would be larger then the gt200 (omg, 4x4 cm!), that prices would be completely unreasonable ($600+), that clock frequencies were lower then the HD5870 and would therefore be uncompetitive (either ignoring or unaware of the fact that high end Nvidia GPU's have been clocked much lower then ATI offerings since G80, while still offering superior or at least competitive performance).

And if the GTX400 series 'merely' equals the performance of the HD5000 series? Well, that would be lower then expected, but in relation to the trolls pride, So what? If you smear enough bullshit about a product for long enough, eventually your going to be right. Unfortunately I've seen people buy products that were far worse (Radeon HD2900 XT, Geforce FX5800).

I want to see benchmarks of the gtx 480 vs the HD 5970. The 5970 has the performance crown and if Nvidia doesn't have a worthy challenger, then there's no point of me looking at Fermi. I didn't wait over 6 months and go through all of the hype for a card that can only compete with the competitor's mid-range cards.

[citation][nom]mlcloud[/nom]Afaik, the GTX 480 will be the 5870's direct competitor, not the 5970. Hence, it's meaningless to compare a massive dual-GPU card with a single GPU card designed to tackle an adversary a tier lower. Just the move to place Fermi in brighter light, I suppose.[/citation]

It's a "competition" for the fastest card on the planet so of course they should be compared. Or is nvidia unable to compete in ultra high-end space?

Well, look like nVidia can't be defeat the ATI power of the 5xxx series, so, to re-sell my GTX260 and buy a new one 5870. Let's see how good are the benchmarks of this nVidia series, but I'm 90% sure that my next GPU will be an ATI 5870.

I would much rather hear about the articles being published today about nVidia supposedly scaling back the first offering of Fermi cards from 512 cores to 480 and 448 for the GTX 480 and 470, respectively, than continue to have "updates" consisting of pictures of boxes and cards. Rumors are rumors, obviously, but that seems much more interesting to me than a picture of the 480 next to an HD 5970.

Information is information, however - I'll take what I can get.

[citation][nom]edduardo[/nom]I don't understand - does TH actually read the comments, ever? Every single little "sneak peak" has been met with a steady stream of we-do-not-care. Why do you keep posting this stuff?[/citation]
Hey just like congress! lol!

But seriously do we really care that much anymore? I mean its the exact same dimensions as the gtx285 and uses the same power as the 295, its most likely going to cost 500 bucks and out perform the 5870 by 5-20%... wake me up when I can buy one.

Considering how tiny the market for the very high-end is, nvidia doesn't need to freak out if it can't compete this generation.

People keep saying that DX11 cards have been out for 6 months and how massively important this is. And yet Steam's February report shows that only 3% of users actually own a DX11 card.

Depending on what percentage that is of, that could be an enourmous user base.

[citation][nom]hoof_hearted[/nom]Now for the real question ...But can it play Crysis?[/citation]

It will play crysis. Even a lone 4870 1gb can play crysis pretty well :) You should be asking Can it play Crysis 2.

some leaked benches from today show the 480 pooh-poohing on the 5870... can't say if they're legit though.

http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=23032

tom's is only going to release speculative info that is accurate because they know the facts but are still bound by the NDA.

common sense, folks. of course, i'm talking to emo ati fans here raging over a fermi post they don't have the self-control to skip.

fine by me, quality entertainment.

Your link is broken mate, here let me help you out.

Hahahahahahahhahahahahaha side by side, they are purposly trying to kill Nvidia fans by previewing simple shots of gpu's to "generate" excitement. All my former excitement went to the 5850 when I bought it..... Nvidia needs to pull a fast one by having results at least 30% better than their Ati counterparts instead of a measly 10%-20% as reported...

Well, I can't say I am not waiting with great expectations to see what Nvidia rolls out. I really need to see real benchmarks after those "leaked" numbers so I will be waiting friday night. But if no other information appears then show us some pictures... ok the size matter.

We need numbers not pictures.

Ati hitting back at a time of 480 arrival with 10.3 preview drivers. Increases in score in 3dmark vantage by 8% and other games.

480 vs 5870 winner 480. 480 vs 5970 winner 5970.
