It doesn't make sense to compare a $700 dual gpu card (that can be difficult to find at times, zero on newegg atm) to a $500 single gpu card.

(and I'm not talking about the pictures)

The 480 should be compared to the 5870 and take into consideration the higher price.

Well, can it play Purble Place well? 😛

Seriously, these Nvidia cards should do well considering the uber long delays plus some tremendous media hype. I'm still waiting for the real thing, Nvidia. No, don't give me some pictures again and again.

[citation][nom]victomofreality[/nom]I'm getting sick and tired of the hype nvidia is getting! Did the 5000's get this much press for the 6 months leading up to the launch?[/citation]

No one cares.

Seriously, I agree with the few people here brave enough to defend the stream of "news" regarding Fermi. If you don't like nVidia, then DON'T CLICK ON THE LINKS. If you don't like Fermi, stop complaining and go elsewhere. Stop using that "HD5000 didn't get this much publicity" line. Serioulsy. No one freaking cares. Also, stop asking for benchmarks, YOU WILL GET THE DAMN BENCHMARKS! Ever heard of a NDA? Just enjoy or hate the news for what it's worth - just a preview of what's to come.

I'm NOT an nVidia fanboy but the constant stream of people whining and bitching about nVidia seriously pisses me off.

[citation][nom]JOSHSKORN[/nom]Who cares about the size. The only thing that matters is how it works. Hmm, seems like I've heard that before in completely different scenarios.[/citation]

My wife cares about the size... She has a very small case where some things just don't fit.

[citation][nom]caskachan[/nom]Ati 5970 has SAME TDP MORE PERFORMACE LOWER PRICE nvidia status[x] told[ ]not told[/citation]
Are you sure about the price?

Well I don't know. I see a few people saying that the GTX480 is the direct competitor to the 5870 but how can you have a direct competitor to anything with a pricepoint $100USD higher? And the 470 is supposed to be the competitor to the 5750 but yet again it will be $50USD higher.. Seems to me Nvidia is being very smart and not releasing a direct competitor to any of ATI's cards. The GTX480 ends up 30% faster then the 5870 ok great but its also 25% more expensive. Now if it ends up close to 5970 performance then I can see a real good price/performance and I'll buy one. But if it ends up in the middle with everything as it appears it will then there is no real competition and I think that may be what Nvidia is looking for right now since they are 6 months behind ATI in releasing DX11 cards.

I'm still expecting ATi to counter nVidia pretty much right after the fermi launch.

Something in the lines of a 5890, I'm sure its sitting on the shelf at ATi R&D right now...

ati for the win,....came out before....costs less, uses less power and gets less hot. these fermis will blow in a matter of months anyway.

phenom2 x4 550 black edition, 100 quid
asus republic of gamers motherboard 100 quid
ram 200 quid
hard drives 100
cd drive 20
case 80
ati 5850 300 quid.

900 quid, or 1200 dollars, try and beat that with fermi.... its 400 for the card. leaving you with crap all to buld the rest, nvida's ram is more expensive, need better cooling for nvida as well.. good luck kids.

Interesting, the 5970 is a dual GPU board, yet the Nvidia GTX-480 is not.

I think its a better comparison to get the dual-GPU version of the GTX-480 and compare it to the 5970. Looking at the size comparison above, I'd believe that Nvidia's equal will be much larger.

[citation][nom]eddieroolz[/nom]I had an entirely different idea on my mind.....[/citation]
LOL Posts of the day

Antec Sonata(the first and second ones) may take a 480 but not the 5970, but hey, it may overheat in that case anyway 😛

Yea jjamess I agree with u 100% too much hype. there is a say "what goes up must up down" enough with all this we tired of the pictures and etc. just show us wat the dam thing can do already!!!!!!!!!!

Why is everyone arguing about those videocards dx 11 dx 10 cores this and that ...I need some kick azz games that uses all that power ! Not some consol port for my 600$ video card ...

Not much of a question there. My 8600M GT mobile Nvidia graphics card can run Crysis. This being the latest high end gaming card out from Nvidia, of course it will run this game.

Would be more funny to ask "will this run in my 486?" like in the video of the HalfLife2 previews. That seems quite a bit more iconic than a Crysis question as it was filmed and possibly even a better milestone of a video game which a enormous amount of more players play online than Crysis to this day.

How many people do I know who own Crysis? many. How many of them play it at all? none of them. will their PC run it? of course, undoubtedly.

[citation][nom]mlcloud[/nom]Afaik, the GTX 480 will be the 5870's direct competitor, not the 5970. Hence, it's meaningless to compare a massive dual-GPU card with a single GPU card designed to tackle an adversary a tier lower. Just the move to place Fermi in brighter light, I suppose.[/citation]

i too find it silly that dual gpu vs single gpu... hmm why not compare apples to apples...

oh thats right there wont be no dual core for nvidia 😛 (not 480's at least)
