While using my 980 i sometimes get black screen issues while playing games (but not all the time) ive refreshed the graphics drivers *updated to latest driver* ive read about underclosking to help this isse out. I have MSI Afterburner installed to try this but unsure of the settings to use to do this underclocking.

If there is anything else anyone can recomend it would be helpful.

On a side note there is no visable damage to the card what so ever.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

ive refreshed the graphics drivers *updated to latest driver*
You mean you've used DDU to remove all GPU drivers(Intel, AMD and Nvidia) in Safe Mode to manually install the latest driver sourced off of Nvidia's support site in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator?
