Can someone advise me as to which one I should purchase, performance wise. Is there a big difference? Also, which card manufacturers should I go with (gainward, leadtek, etc); does it make a difference...P.S. I am not interested in tv or dvi out....just basic monitor. Thanks, frew of stew

Ok, if you don't need DVI and dual monitor and such, then this is your best bet:

Or if you want to save as much money as possible.

Well, the 64MB doesn't have the Golden Sample ability (to overclock to the ultra performance level or whatever it is they call it). Also, it has 64MB less RAM. But the RAM is higher.

Yeah.

The 64meg version has a faster clock on both the memory, and gpu.

But, the 128meg version will hammer out faster frame rates at 16x1200, and 1280x1024. At 1024x768, though, the 64meg version will considerable out drill the 128meg version.

So, the question here is, what resolution will you be playing at?

You sure the GPU speed is also faster? I thought it was 250/250 for the 64MB and 250/222 for the 128MB.

I am currently playing at 1024x768. Now another question...I am currently using the Geforce2 mx/mx 400 64mb sdram memory card......will the Geforce4 ti4200 64mb show a significant difference. Thanx again, frew of stew

You are right. It's 250/500(250x2) for the 64mb and 250/444(222x2) for the 128mb. The cores are the same. The 64mb has faster memory.

You can overclock both cards, but you can't add extra memory to them. So if you plan to use the card for long time, then I'd suggest you go for the 128MB version.

Thank You. I am confused by tom's benchmarks for the ti4200 64mb and ti4200 128mb......he footnotes the benchmarks with a statement that a 128mb was used to simulate the 64mb. Has anyone noticed this...and could those persons fill me in on what the hell it means. Appreciate your input..........frew of stew

Again, as posted above...can someone please comment on tom's simulated benchmark.....just want to keep this post alive a little longer...in case someone knows......thank you for your patience........frew

If you want to save some money, i reccomend the 64mb version.
Slightly faster at stock speeds, and the real differences only show up at maximum resolutions where the extra memory is needed for all the texture information.

provided you stick at or below 1280x1024 resolution you should be fine.

So at lower resolution I would be fine with the 64mb ti4200...well I do play at 1024x768...so that gives me a lot of leadway to experiment even with my current (gf2 mx400 64mb sdram memory)card and see what I am getting at higher resolutions. My problem is that I was wondering what tom's benchmarks meant for the 64mb card, when he footnotes that the 64mb was simulated with a 128mb card...are these results near reliable...my friend thinks that somehow the 128mb card was handicapped to behave like the 64mb card...is this possible...and if these results are not the most reliable...can anyone post a site that benchmarks the gf4 ti4200 64mb vs 128mb; using the actual cards. frew

Like the people said before, the difference between the Ti4200 64mb and Ti4200 128mb is minute...at best. I've seen more than 1 comparison between the two, both being the same exact card manufacturer etc., the only difference being 64mb vs. 128mb.

In every one I saw, the 64mb beat the 128mb by 1-3 fps on resolutions 1280x1024 and lower.

When the resolutions reached 1600x1200, the 128mb slightly(I mean slightly)edged the 64mb. The only benchmark I think the 128mb might have outscored the 64mb was in the Commanche 4 bench.

The bottom line...if you aren't playing in resolutions higher than 1280x1024, then your best bet is to go with the 64mb version. Unless you are looking into the future more and would maybe benefit from the extra memory in newer games down the line.

Not to mention you can overclock a 64mb card much better than a 128mb. If you're into that sort of thing anyway.

Thank you and all the others...I am finally at peace with this issue...I will be looking into the Gainward Golden Sample GF4 ti4200 64mb ddr (with out tv out and other out frills). I hope it will be a significant upgrade from my gf2 mx400 64mb sdram card. frew

Damn, I just read your other post, LT,...maybe I should look into Leadtek........decisions...decisions....lol ....frew

If at first you don't succeed...become a pain in the butt ... lol frew

Good choice. That card can be hella overclocked.

I also am upgrading from a GeForce 2 MX400 64mb. I just purchased a Leadtek Ti4200 64mb($139.00 w/free shpping at NewEgg.com) over the weekend. Should be here tomorrow.

Your upgrade will be a MASSIVE improvement. As will mine. I can't wait!

Good luck.

Yeah....I just read your other post...look above at my edited statement..........I like leadtek....had one of their cards once ....was very pleased.......good luck to you...hope you see great things!! frew
