[SOLVED] Gen 3x4

i'm wanting to upgrade storage on my M17 R3 laptop 512 ssd, The specs say i have a M2 PCIe NVME Gen 3x4 class 40 2280 SSD 512. Can I add a Gen 3 or a Gen 4 or does it have be another 3x4?
the ssd drive in it now is the M2 PCIe 2 NVME Gen 3x4 class 40 2280
I have Alienware laptop by dell. their web site says it a dell ssd

I didn't dig too deep, but it looks like it has 3 slots. Don't have a Dell so not familiar with their website but not easy to find out specs on the link I gave for me and just got off work, but impressed by 3 slots since I need a lot of storage and have to travel a lot so I use a laptop whenever away from home.

It may have 1, 2, 3 ports.

Hopefully, the OP would find and post a link stating the capabilities of each port.

"M.2" is not always the same.

I have an Alienware M17 R3 made by Dell. The ssd is the M2 PCIe NVME Gen 3x4 class 40 2280 SSD 512 I'm wanting to add 1TB in empty slot for less than $400.
