Gday folks
With BF2, there is a utility that shows you all your system
specs and I noticed that my 128Mb 6800GT card was showing up with only 64Mb
ram. All I could think of was to change the AGP aperture in bios to 256Mb
and it then showed up with the correct amount of ram. Just thought I would
mention it if someone is not getting the performance they might expect from
their vid card and to add to the general knowledge base.
To further a comparison between 6800 and 6600 I put every slider in
FS9 on both computers to the max (except AA is still off, filtering bilinear,
MIP mapping 4 and Hardware lights 6) then set the same plane over Sydney on
spot view with "Building storms" weather. The 6800 ran at about 23-24fps and
the 6600 at about 18fps.
Speaking of weather, after reading the post about clouds moving, I
set the plane on the ground and set the sim rate at 128x. I could not see
the clouds moving so I slewed up a little (about 100' AGL) and then it
really kicked in. Never noticed before that you have to be off the ground
for the sim rate to increase.
