Question General question - might be obvious

Hi!

I'm a bit of a PC newbie and don't have the greatest set up. I'm using a 1660s and a 10400F processor, and am getting higher FPS on some newer games than I expected.

I'm just wondering if it's possible to get high FPS/performance, but in the background my hardware is absolutely melting. PC isn't very hot to the touch either.

In the first instance, would FPS just drop if the PC can't handle it?

depend on what resolution, detail and what these newer games are

yes fps would drop if the pc can't handle it
