Hey there! So I was getting some PC parts together to gift to my mom for Christmas and I'm thinking about getting her an SSD instead of a regular hard drive, however I have never personally dealt with one myself so I have a few questions. (Most of which I have a pretty good guess about but I wanted to confirm it) She has a TB of cloud data that she likes to use so a smaller size storage space isn't really a problem. Any answers or opinions are greatly appreciated! 😀

Questions: (* = Important)
*1. Do you install them just like regular hard drives?

2. How does the safety of corruption and what not compare with regular hard drives?

3. Are there any problems I should be aware of when getting one of these for the first time? (i.e. Sizes for the hard drive slots on case, screws, non-compatibility with cases, known issues with booting, etc.)

*4. Do you need to have a hard drive and a SSD or can an SSD stand alone? (I'm pretty sure it can stand alone but I'd hate if it can't and I buy it and it doesn't work)

5. Does this SSD look good? https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-75E250B-AM/dp/B00OAJ412U/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1480556466&sr=1-4&keywords=SSD (idk what Im really looking for it just had high ratings and looked nice)

Thats all I can think of for now. If you have anything else you would like to warn or bring up please do! I am thankful for any and all help 😀

Solution
1. Yes

2. Current consumer grade SSD's are proving to be more reliable than traditional HDDs

3. Anywhere a 2.5" spinning drive will fit, a 2.5" SSD will fit.
In the unlikely event your specific case does not have a dedicated 2.5" drive mount, there are dozens of 3.5"->2.5" adapter plates, to let a 2.5" drive fit in a regular size HDD mount

4. You can either or both. My wife's PC has a single 250GB Samsung 850 EVO.
My main PC has 4 SSD's (totaling 2TB) and a 3TB HDD for backups
All depends on your personal size needs and budget.

5. Yes, that is a very good drive. I have that in both the 250GB and 500GB size.
