I am trying to run an EVGA Geoforce GTX 750 Ti on a Gateway DX4870-UB21P. I have updated the BIOS to what is available on the gateway site (version P01-A2). The machine specs say I have a PCI Express (3.0) x16 slot and the card does fit in there. There are no extra power connectors on the card that I can see.

After installing the card in the slot and powering on, I get the Gateway screen with the two options for enter BIOS (Del, and F-11). Neither works. I get two beeps spaced about twenty seconds or so apart, then eventually get a blinking cursor screen which just stays there.

I powered downed, remove the graphics card, and plugged monitor back into integrated video. Powered on, entered BIOS setup and looked for options to disable secure boot and go to legacy like some have suggested, but that is not available. I also looked for an option to select PCI video. Nada.

I also made sure the card was properly seated in the slot.

the 750 Ti says it needs a 300 watt or greater power supply. The power supply I have is a Liteon PS-8301-08A which I think is also 300W.

The mobo is an Acer

Is this graphics card not compatible with this PC? If not, what is?

Please, let me know what other information you need to help solve this problem

thanks!

ok, swapped out the power supply to a 600W one

i went ahead and popped out the battery on the mobo, too - since it was getting old - held power button for a few seconds then replaced with new battery.

reinstalled the GTX 750 Ti, verified it was seated, rechecked all connections and then powered the gateway back on. no luck. 🙁

here are the symptons:

Gateway splash, beeps three times (about 20 secs apart), then goes to blank screen
reboot
Gateway splash, hit DEL key, says "entering setup...," beeps three times (about 20 secs apart), then goes to blank screen
reboot
Gateway splash, hit f(12) key, says "please wait...," beeps three times (about 20 secs apart), then goes to screen with flashing cursor on the upper left hand.

F12 and DEL are the only keys I see at the gateway splash after powering on.

My mobo is an Acer IPIMB-AR rev 1.02a

at least this time I was able to see something change on the del and f12 keys where it was doing nothing before on the old psu. however, still having issues.

removed the GTX card, plugged vga back to integrated and have screen back.

so...damn!

What now?

I suppose I can try a different video card. what are the best ones that can be used with this machine? However, I really would like to try to see if there is anything else we can do to the one I have to work.

interesting, try using a different card.

I am still wondering if there is something more that can be done with the BIOS. In another post I read, someone is saying that if I did not get the post beeps and the flashing cursor and no video signal at all, then the card is bad. The only BIOS version I can find from Gateway for the machine I have is the P01.A2, and the menus are limited - does not list secure boot, launch csm, enabling pci.

This post is very similar to the issues i am getting:

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2091164/update-gateway-bios-run-gtx-750-video-card-problems.html

so, I am wondering if it is my bios that is stopping from this card to work.

please, let me know.

you can try if you want.

I got another video card to try. The other card I have tried is the PNY GTX 750 and it had the exact symptoms as the other card, so I don't think its a card problem any more. The issue must be in the machine. Thus, unless the BIOS can be updated to unlock or provide the other options, it looks like I am stuck. 🙁

It could be the PCI-e slot is bad, too. I suppose the BIOS chip could be replaced with a different one, but going that far might as well get another mobo. either way, seems I will have to get another mobo to make these darn cards work, unless there is ANY hope the BIOS on this one can be unlocked or updated to get more options, like secure boot.

Please, let me know if there is any hope here short of replacing the mobo.

you can try getting a new motherboard

You need to go into the bios and disable secure boot.

You may also need to change boot settings to enable legacy mode or compatibility mode.

CPUs Authority - I do not have those options in my BIOS menu. Those settings seem to be something that has come out since windows 8. I have windows 7.
