I have a new Geoforce GTX 780 graphics card that Im trying to hook up in my Dell XPS pc. The geoforce has a place to plug in a six pin plug and a place to plug in an 8 pin plug. My motherboard needs a four pin plug.
My new power supply has two six pin plugs and two four pin plugs. I have tried plugging in one six pin to the video card and one four pin plug into the mother board and that resulted in an error message on startup that said something to the effect of the video card not having power.
I then tried plugging in one six pin plug into the video card, both four pin plugs into the video card and the six pin plug to the motherboard with two pins hanging over the side. that resulted in the pc not starting up.
i then tried plugging in two six pin plugs into the video card and one four pin plug into the motherboard and got the no power to card error again.
Is there some way of hooking it up that I'm missing or do I need to return my new power supply and buy a new one?
<Edit> Its running. Getting a quality power supply solved my problem. Thanks for all the input
