Doom and Wolfenstein with Sound Blaster at full blast, those were the good old days

Ah, now I also remember playing doom in Pc;s without any soundcard during some c++ class during the parts where we learned non object oriented stuff. Since I already knew C I could just blast many levels of doom on the standard Pc;s that didn't have any soundcards in them (As most standard pc;s at schools and universities didn't back then).

Probably something that was happening at million Pc;s (with no soundcards) at workplaces, schools etc around the world back then!

[citation][nom]back_by_demand[/nom]Actually it isn't, the worst genocide was Spain and Cortez in South America, 60 million is a conservative estimate and that is as much as Hitler, Stalin and Mao all put together. Then there was what happened to the Native Americans against an invading European force.3 million is a drop in the oceam compared to what happened on the other side of the pond, but seeing as they happened so long ago people seem to forget.I guess nobody learned anything from that lesson, eh?[/citation]
I said "Worst genocide" - not largest. Trust me, they did some REALLY fucked up stuff the people in concentration camps and etc. Medical experiments galore, let alone all the gassing and other cruel torturing.

[citation][nom]alonso[/nom]@Back_on_demand: I am pretty sure in German, Austria and other very much affected countries of WW2, that there is more and a tougher, deeper view into WW2 in history lessons than in any other country.Or did u mean that with sarcasm...[/citation]

I grew up in germany. At no point did I ever get a single history lesson. It was always mandatory to take religion classes however.

In germany highschool students are segregated into 3 categories of schools. Whether your allowed to go to the better highschool or continue on to college is entirely dependent on your social status and whether you fit the image of the ideal german. There are no tests and getting a lesser education doesnt mean you pay less taxes. Socialism at its best.

I will also say that it is not uncommon for Nazi sympathizers, or just simply racist people, to be attracted towards Nazi paraphernalia, including games like Wolfenstein. So even though I don't agree with the ban, I completely understand their reasoning behind it.

I partially agreed with you on this point, however, IMHO the real reason necessitating a ban is sensitivity. There are still lots of living people with scars of WW2, and of course It would be wrong on all fronts to glorify their misfortunes. But however, it's silly and ineffective as a deterrent to racism and ultra-nationalism. Patriotism is a basic human nature, what ban have successfully suppressed sexuality? stop people from being homosexuals? stop people from drinking alcohols? Its like having red button with "NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER touch, look, and dont you even think about it, really please" written just to attract unwanted(?) attention.

Violent, racist people are attracted to lots of things, with Nazism being very visible, recognized instance. But racial tensions that give rises to wars still exists to this day racism will continue in to the future. and in the future talking about Hitler would be like talking about Caligula and Napoleon which no body cares and racist people won't even be a skinhead anymore because it went out of style, By then History would have chose a new Archenemy so that people can conveniently make ad hominem attacks and that the anti-social have some modern forms to expressing themselves.

[citation][nom]back_by_demand[/nom]Those horrors are simple human nature, left unchecked any nation on this planet can do the same, look at what happened in Bosnia, Somalia, Zimbabwe, all very very recently. As soon as the controlling authority lets it off the chain people automatically start to divide and kill each other for a real or imagined enemy.Surely the Americans can understand this? Your whole nation was quite happy with the idea of the black slave trade until Lincoln abolished it. One man, in charge, altered the status quo.Hitler did the opposite, sure he nation had racial tension but instead of trying to calm the people and get them to work together he fomented that into a resolve and stoked the fires of anti-semetism. He could have used his influence to make the country a better place, instead he guided the country into madness.Of course now that Hitler is dead the German people remain and there is always that undercurrent of neo-Nazi feeling, but no worse than the Klan in the USA, with the right kind of leadership Germany now is great place to visit, good food, fantastic beer and they make some pretty good cars.In many ways, Hitler and George W Bush are alike, both got elected in very dubious circumstances and led the nation to illegal wars, the real lesson here is be very careful about which idiot you vote for because the man does not always represent the idiology, even if his party has a sound message.[/citation]

I gave you a thumbs up, because , regardless of what my fellow Americans want to believe and deny, you are correct..

some people here in the US are just not mentally up to par... or use the N word on a regular basis example: like the people that gave you a thumbs down
