I current use a DPC3825 as my modem and router all in one, and it's decent and all, but the signal is much weaker, resulting in slower speeds in different floors. Is it worth it to purchase a separate router for better wireless connection, or is there something else I can do except for repositioning the router?

The best thing that you can do to improve the signal is to set up a wireless access point in the area where the signal is poor. Connect it to an LAN port on your router with either: (1) a CAT5e Ethernet cable, (2) a pair of powerline adapters over your electrical outlets to connect the two, or (3) a MOCA adapter pair if your cable TV is compatible that makes the connection over your coax cable.
