I have a LG 32MP58HQ-P monitor, which I got 2 years ago because all I was doing is watching YouTube and movies.

I recently got back into gaming, and I'm finding it not appropriate.

I find it too big and the resolution seems too low for the size of the display.

I have a i5-7500, 1060 6GB and NVME. Very basic, but it works.

I'm looking at 24 inches monitors, 144hz.

I'm a bit confused, should I go for G-SYNC? I'm afraid to buy a monitor that's overpriced only because it's considered a 'gaming monitor' and downgrade from what I currently have.

Should I instead go for a GPU upgrade?

You can get a freesync monitor which are cheaper and pretty much do the same job of preventing screen tearing. If you want to utilize the 144Hz refresh rate in games however you will either need to lower your settings a bit in some games or upgrade your GPU. A 1060 is not a 1440p ready card, albeit not a bad card to have.

You can get a Freesync monitor which is much cheaper than a Gsync, almost every 144hz monitor has freesync, a GTX 1060 can run 144fps easily depending of the game, most competitive games can run at 144fps with a 1060 but its only depending on what are you going to play, im not a expert but i think you should go first for a better cpu, in your actual rig there it may be a little of bottleneck.

(sorry if you don't understand my english)
