[SOLVED] Getting internet from TV receiver vs router

First off I apologize if this is a stupid question.

For the past week and a half or so I've been connecting my PC and PS4 via ethernet to my landlord's TV's receiver and the connection has been brutally slow. He told me it's slow because the building is made out of concrete and wifi signals dont travel well through concrete which makes sense.

I just realized I was plugging the ethernet cable into the receiver today, all along I thought it was the router. Would plugging the ethernet from my PC into the receiver be the cause of the slower internet? The receiver seems to get internet wirelessly from the router and the connection is always 1 bar on the receiver... I think I've been a colossal moron and been plugging the ethernet cable into the wrong machine and that's why it's so slow. Does that make sense?

Solution
If everything from the outside world coming to your router was cabled, you'd be fine.

But, if your router depends on wifi to connect to the outside world, then no-go. You'd need separate internet service wired in to your router/cablemodem/whatever.
It could be. BUT - if your router's connection to the outside world is wireless, then you may still have slow internet. If it's wired, then the concrete is irrelevant and things should be faster.
I see.... bummer. Is there anything that can be done to alleviate this problem? Like would a power like adapter help or does that not help if the router connects wirelessly to the outside?

Actually, the fact that your TV box works as a WiFi bridge is pretty strange, so consider yourself lucky (if wired Ethernet is your only option). So, investigate whether WiFi connection (use your phone, or laptop to check) would give you better connection, or negotiate with your landlord wired connection. The other think to consider is how many people your landlord' Internet is feeding.

The landlord will let me use a wired connection. It's barely faster if at all faster... bummer.
