It is a good upgrade if you're stuck with perhaps the old 2010 PC with *for instance* an AthlonIIx2 235 and just want to upgrade that and get more juice out of it then by all means.
It will cure the bottleneck of the dual core Athlon, ..Your games will run much faster/be richer, fuller -but you'll still have issues against any newer setup
I surely wouldn't build a new desktop with that processor

I would assume that this is the best cpu the OPs current board supports.
Otherwise no, this would be a pointless plattform to buy into if you dont already have motherboard.

It will perform ok for pre 2013 games but wont be a rockstar by any stretch, processor came out in q4 2010 so it was already dated in 2013. More importantly is that anything above a GTX 1050 or RX-460 GPU will be bottlenecked by this CPU so dont expect more then low-medium settings in most games.
