Hello People of Tom's,

Since Saturday April 6th I have been getting blue screen of deaths including "system Service Exception", "Memory Management", "Critical Structure Corruption" and "Kernel Security Check Failure". These BSOD don't just happen when I turn my PC on but while I'm gaming. While gaming I usually have Discord, Spotify and Twitch open on my left screen and a game on my right screen (games include Fortnite, Hearthstone, Overwatch, R6 Siege). The BSOD's don't pop up right away but after an hour to a couple hours of gaming with the setup above. I am going to post my specs and mini dumps below. Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

PS- If im missing stuff or posted wrong please let me know!

My System:
Intel i7-8700k (not overclocked)
ASUS PRIME Z390-A
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 (ROG Strix A8G)
Corsair Vengence 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3000MHz C15
1 SunDisk SSD Plus 480GB (Windows Installed on this)
1 Samsung 860 evo 1TB SSD
1 WD 1TB HDD

If you need full specs/items -> https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Dommer_/saved/cMGWD3

Here are the dumps:

I ran the dump file through the debugger and got the following information: https://pste.eu/p/tz1C.html

File information:042519-8609-01.dmp (Apr 25 2019 - 21:03:14)
Bugcheck:SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007E)
Probably caused by:memory_corruption (Process: svchost.exe)
Uptime:0 Day(s), 13 Hour(s), 45 Min(s), and 01 Sec(s)

This information can be used by others to help you. I can't help you with this. Someone else will post with more information. Please wait for additional answers. Good luck.

Could it be my GPU? or is it probably a driver?

i always blame software first which can blind side me :)

Its a shame you more or less put same software back on PC before you got BSOD

do you use the PS3/PS4 controller for the game? It could be scarlet crush.

But we can also try to get windows to show us cause. Just make sure to do step 1 & 2 as the process can put you into a boot loop

Before running this,

1) search for “Create a restore point” and create a restore point

2) Create a bootable USB of Win 10 installer to use as a boot drive. download the Windows 10 media creation tool and use it to make a win 10 installer on USB (you can skip this if you have a new installer)

Try running driver verifer, just read the instructions carefully.

It is part of win 10 designed to find misbehaving drivers. It will cause BSOD, that is its job since it tests drivers.

Once it bsod, upload the minidump file and we see what it shows us.

Steps 1 & 2 are just precautions as sometimes driver verifer can put you in a boot loop. If this happen, follow these steps to get out of it

change boot order so USB is first, hdd second
boot from installer
on screen after languages, choose repair this pc, not install.
choose troubleshoot
choose advanced
choose system restore and roll system back to restore point created in step 1. PC should boot normally.

I will do it once I get home tonight (i live In the States). As for a PS4 controller, I have one connected via bluetooth using DS4 but I wasn't using it last night when I got the BSOD. I typically use M+KB for most games and controller for Rocket League and fighters. The reason I question the GPU is because I built this PC in March and it was fine. I swapped out my MSI Aero 1070 for a Asus Strix 1080 that I bought off of Ebay. When I received it, I ran some tests (Valley Bench mark etc) to make sure it was working and had no issues. I used the GPU for about 2 weeks with no issues and then it all happened while I was playing Fortnight, game crashes and then BSOD's. And since I have been getting them after playing any game for an hour or two.

so what used scarlet crush? Scarlet.Crush Productions Scp Dual Shock 3 Virtual Bus driver... i will keep questioning it until its gone and you still get bsod.

It could be GPU, if it is only change you made before BSOD. Not sure how to test GPU apart from benchmarks like Furmark or Heaven

if it didn't just happen in games you could run without GPU to see if it still happened.

I can uninstall GPU drivers using DDU and put my old 1070 back in, install the 1070 drivers and test. I think I might try that tonight, If i still get BSOD then I know it is probably not the GPU. Then I will try the driver verified. I think DS4 uses scarlet crush but maybe it is always running. If this is the culprit i can just uninstall/delete (not sure the right lingo) and always connect my PS4 controller with a cable. Its worth it to stop BSOD's.

Where would you get 1070 drivers from as if its Nvidia, it will be same ones you have. Reason I ask is if you got different ones for 1070 and got no errors, there is no way to prove its the GPU or drivers then. I would use the same ones if you can.

just remove scarlet crush to prove its not cause more than anything. We sort of working through possible causes to find right one.

This is going to be a fairly noob question. How do I correctly remove the scarlet crush driver? Device Manager screen? Also I didn't know if the different GPU's had different drivers. Iv'e only been a PC gamer for about a year and have been teaching my self things through youtube and helpful people like you.

I think you can swap the gpu out without running DDU since they both Nvidia 10 series cards. That would be 1 way to use same drivers.

Yes, autoruns is a easy way to stop it without uninstalling it. I don't think of these things.

@gardenman @Colif Here's my update. I downloaded and used Autoruns and unchecked the ScpVBus.sys driver and restarted. I then played games as normal and it seemed pretty good. I played Fortnite and Hearthstone for about 3 hours all together. Then for some reason I decided to open DS4 to see if it would do anything and it probably caused my BSOD. I want to confirm before I manually delete the driver from my PC. I dont need to use that program if it is causing the BSOD single highhandedly. Of course after the first BSOD I got the second one in the loop before i shutdown my PC. As I was typing this I got another BSOD so im going to post all 3 dump files to see what you may find.

DS4? Was that the Dualshock 4 program? I can't read dumps, as you know, just guessing.

just cause its off in autoruns doesn't stop it running if you start the program. it just stops it loading at startup. So you crashing after you start its program could mean it is cause still.

Is SCP still off in autoruns?

Did you do a restart using the command in power menu in start screen? or shutdown/turn it back on again?

Its possible the driver is loaded. again. WIn 10 doesn't turn off when you shut it down, so if Fast startup is on, it is always possible the scp driver was loaded again since it had been running at shutdown.

What Fast startup does is it saves a copy of all running drivers to ram + a copy of the kernel so when you start again, it jumps into action. So Scarlet crush could have just reloaded with that...
I could be wrong, I don't know all the steps of what win 10 does in its new startup method, I also not sure how autoruns stops the programs. not a programmer.

Dumps will tell us for sure.

you don't need to @ me, I will see a reply to any thread I am in :)

I don't have that many Dream Theatre, I just got latest cause the bands I listen to all released new albums a few years ago so in a quiet time.

SCP is still off in autoruns but i just went over to restart or shutdown from the start menu. When i was reinstalling all the programs I used after reinstalling windows I remember being asked if it was ok to install that Scarlet Crush driver and I figured why not. I'm 90% it is from the DS4 (dual shock 4) program.

Which way should I turn the power on/off for testing this? Before I uninstall anything I guess we'll wait to see what is actually decoded from these dumps.

you use ssd, you don't need fast startup, so lets turn it off and then it doesn't matter which way you turn pc off, it will actually be off

right click start
choose power options
under Related settings, pick Additional power settings
in control panel screen, click Choose what the power button does
next to Blue/yellow shield, click Change settings that are currently unavailable
untick "Turn on fast startup" and click save changes

it mainly helps people with hdd, not much benefit on ssd as they fast enough already.

As for uninstalling, lets wait and see what dumps say.

Dumps aren't directly blaming anything... but scarlet crush isn't mentioned as a drive being run at the time.

You have the old Daemon tools on there again, unless the drivers are still associated with the newest version on Asus site. This file caused Driver verifier to crash on last install and its running on PC now.
Dec 28 2015 dtliteusbbus.sys DAEMON Tools Lite Virtual USB Bus (Disc Soft Ltd)

So I would update or remove it

What Bluetooth have you got? What Wifi device?
Mar 23 2015 bcbtums.sys Broadcom Bluetooth Firmware Download Filter driver

this seems old and as far as I can tell, motherboard only has Ethernet.

You may need to run driver verifier again to identify the driver. Edge and Chrome both crashing makes me think its lan drivers but they seem fairly new still.
May 02 2018 e1d65x64.sys Intel(R) Gigabit Adapter NDIS 6.x driver https://downloadcenter.intel.com/
May 28 2018 rtwlane.sys Realtek PCI-E Wireless LAN NIC NDIS driver https://www.realtek.com/en/

So not obvious ones to blame.

Curious, did I ever get you to run Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool? as apart from ram, CPU also part of the memory management process

I just uninstalled Daemon Tools Lite because I don't even use it and it is just a free lite version (hopefully uninstalling removes the drivers). I have an Asus pcie wifi adapter card I forget which one and I have a little bluetooth use dongle

I have not run the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool but I did swap out my GPU's last night and in my limited time using it, I have not had a BSOD yet. That may jinx it but I going to do what I have been on this GPU until I get a BSOD. If I dont then it is either my Strix 1080 GPU or could it be the Strix not cooperating with something on my PC?

Download speccy and install it, and restart PC (probably want to untick get ccleaner, you don't need it)
run speccy and in file, publish snapshot and copy link, and put it in here. It won't show any personal info.

it might show us what WiFi card you have. they might not be cause, im just branching out since scarlet crush isn't running now. It may not have been cause but then you crashed 3 times after loading its program.

I don't like jinxing people so not saying anything :)

How often you use bluetooth?

503 error, that is their end... it might just be down since its a sunday

That ps4 controller keeps coming back into it.. kill scp, now i question bluetooth... not sure if it is a coincidence or something I should think about more.

wait and see if gpu change helps.

I have seen usb devices mess with gpu (personally) so its always possible it was not the other GPU - do you have anyway to test the 1080 in another PC?

I am planning on selling my old PC but I was waiting to see how the 1080 was going to do. I'm glad I waited just to check the waters. I can put an old 80HDD in the old rig and install free windows and a couple games just to try out and test. I can do that some time during the week if this 1070 still works out ok.

Ok, got a BSOD while using my GTX 1070 so I guess we can go back to thinking it is in the diver issue vein.

I will run another driver verifier and Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool later.

Edit: I ran the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool and got a BSOD during the first test (dump below) but got a pass on the second test.

Your PS4 controller is following me (not literally) but driver verifier tripped on the Bluetooth drivers, I thought it was a clue but I didn't listen...

can't get them from Broadcom direct... meant to get them through windows update (Try updating through device manager, according to their website)

in speccy, can you go to file, and click save as text file. create one and upload it, just curious if its got anything we can use to figure out if there are newer drivers for it.

There are some here but need to work out which you have - https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=Broadcom+bluetooth

You might need to use the chord when you use PS controller. Unplug the bluetooth thing and then run driver verifier again, as the 2nd one mentioned nvidia. ONly once it stops finding things can you really go on.
